    R500 engines

I don't think that the'top end refresh' is what's recommended by Minister/Caterham at the 3000/10000 interval. That refresh includes the bottom end as well. Graham Edited by - gridgway on 16 Oct 2002 09:31:41

    R500 engines

especially with the item available here! Private sale so much cheaper that from a dealer. As they say "first person to see it who wants an R500 with aeroscreen and likes blue will buy it"! Graham (put the colour bit in for you Andrew )
  5. "they all used to do that Sir"! I bought a replacement when mine went a few years back, but was abused by a welder friend who said he could have put it (accurately) back together in a few minutes! Graham
  6. did you say 60,000 miles?? That's pretty good. If your engine goes at that mileage I would count yourself lucky and get a new one!! Graham
  7. I had the factory flat floor setup and it was very good indeed. Graham
  8. I am selling the R500 of the century. It has a completely refreshed engine having done 0 (ok maybe delivery) miles, new clutch and has all the bits... Monte Carlo Blue None of that namby pamby winscreen/heater/weather gear rubbish Full R500 track add-ons (oil cooler, Apollo (plus dry sump), ECU controlled triple pass rad) Outrageously expensive (£1500) carbon air box to make it quiet enough for anywhere. FIA bar Battery cut off 2nd set of wheels and ACB10s (SLR style) Tonneau Straight through or Cat exhaust Armorfend on rear wings Choice of radial or cross-ply DD set-up Tyre rack to carry 2nd set of wheels! Loved and cherished Looking to get £28,000 for it. It would cost £40k new at todays prices, or this car would be £32k 2nd hand at Caterham. Click here for pics etc Graham (web pages created by one N Ridgway aged 12) Re-posted, forgot to mention the batt cut off before, so that'll get more people interested don't forget, open to offers!
  9. sender, sender, sender, or maybe the sender! Graham
  10. dunno how you would test it other than change it. Emerald is a good idea to at least narrow the problem down. Graham
  11. have you tried the crank sensor? Graham
  12. boing, back up to the top. Still for sale, it's just itching for someone to make an offer to buy this fabulous car!! Graham
  13. oooh er, what a lot of questions! It does do CC well, it reputedly has 92dBa. The engine has the new bearings and has all the track upgrades...oil cooler, triple pass rad, ecu controlled fan, cute diddy Apollo, oil cooler and those nice Van Der Vell VP2 Bearings! It has just had an engine rebuild...which consists of the normal refresh plus new rods, pistuns, liners and rings! This is all self induced I'm afraid. I sucked the contents of a bag of cement into the engine a few months ago! It also has a new clutch and release bearing...no expense spared. Reason for selling...I don't drive it enough, lots of family things get in the way. Give us a call if you are interested. 07713 988555. Graham
  14. Hi Andrew, thanks for the Ultima idea, but not really my cup of tea. Let me know how you get on and I'll do the same! Graham
  15. Steve, I'm going to keep it together as a package for the time being, unfortunately there is alreasy a queue for the wheels! Graham

  17. Andy, best to check one out (drive one) before getting it if PC's experiences are anything to go by. Graham
  18. soz ☹️, didn't mean to be a pessimist, but the way that the bush works means that tightening it up less will not make it work properly. It is designed so that there is a 'cotton-reel' piece of rubber pressed into the outer casing with a steel sleeve in the middle. The steel sleeve is bolted up tight with the bolt and cannot move. So tightening it less (unless the over-tightening is distorting it), should make no difference. The flexing of the rubber is where the movement occurs. Anyway , lets see what happens. Just trying to help. Graham
  19. my 'prediction' will be that the sound will not go away as the bush is prob knacked! Graham
  20. amazing, they still have that error in, completely pathetic! Graham
  21. the problem is probably that the rubber bush has 'parted' and rather than the rubber moving with the A frame going up and down, the two sides of the crack (ahem) are rubbing against each other. Either change the A frame or get it re-bushed (not sure how to do the latter though). Graham
  22. I understand that the location of the head with the dowels is also prone to failure. Graham
  23. Peter, you must have had the word gleet in your vocab. One wonders why! Graham
  24. Gareth, I do have two tickets left, so perfect. If you would like to let me know your snail mail address I will put the tickets in the post and let you have my address for a cheque. I can prob get the tickets in the post today. Regards Graham
