  1. they all do that sir! Well, lots of the ones I have driven have. I always seem to have to change from 1st to 3rd until it's got warm. Graham
  2. but the amount of (old) oil that is left compared to the (new) oil going in is fine even with the foam bit. You don't need to get all the old oil out - just most. Graham

    R500 wanted

Isn't Richard Ince selling one of his? Not exactly to your spec I know (never raced or rallied!!), but will have been very well looked after. Graham
  4. Peter, I may be interested, can you send me some details please? Tks Graham
  5. under the dash, over the steering column, vertically to the rear of the front edge of the scuttle. Graham
  6. I had two offered to me when I put a request out on www.findapart.co.uk Didn't check them out to make sure they were pucka, but the guys claimed that they came from the right blandeo Graham
  7. I thought that using non e-marked tyres was not the illegal bit, but the selling of them was. Could have dreamt it though. Graham
  8. I estimated about £4k to do a 180bhp duratec from a 2nd-hand engine. Doesn't sound massively cheap to me, but not that expensive either. Graham
  9. call me fick, but how do you lower the floor by 40mm? Graham
  10. I can do a 97 pic, any good Arnie? Graham
  11. indicators are often stopped by the hazard switch half on oil pressure mis-readings are often caused by a shagged sender unit not sure about the rest! Graham

    Compressor

thanks for all the info. Is there a 2nd hand market for this stuff? I quite like buying good 2nd hand gear. Graham PS Steve, I owe you a tenner and a scalextric race...sorry about that! I am busy this week, then on hols for a week, what about the week after?
  13. I used my (2-7's-ago) SLR their with a brand new 7" SLR race box. The static was fine, but I got stopped by the drive-by. I put on one of their gizmos for £20 for the day and lifted a little past the meters. It was fine. Graham

    Compressor

I am looking to get some air in the gge to run an airline to pump up tyres, help to clean things off and to poss run air powered tools. Does anyone have any recommendations for compressors et al? Tks Graham
  15. good point Arnie, but they don't need one! All they need to do is to refuse to give out the pin! That's what they do. The difference is that there is no agreement not to reverse engineer! That's covered (in software) by law anyway. They don't give out the design diagrams either, nor the finite element analysis, nor the failure analysis. So if you get the pin, there is no licence agreement on what you can or cannot do with it!!! Looks good to me. So the question is what happens if you are the owner of an R400, you hack the ECU, change the map and blow the engine?? Graham
  16. When I spoke to Simon on the subject he explained that if they gave the pin away they would have lots of possibly unskilled people fiddling and some would blow their engines and try to claim on the warranty. So that's fair enough, lots of things come with "if you break the seal you invalidate the warranty". Anyway when I spend money to develop software to sell to my clients, I only sell them a licence to run it (and of course - EU regs - interact with it) not have the source code and change it! Just a thought! Graham (PS post it on blatchat...hmmm...up to you!)
  17. of course they have set a PIN, they are desperate to make sure that noone gets in (well actually rightly so in my view) they might even have diff PINs for diff models or even diff cars! Graham
  18. yep I agree with the argument that logically you could use that method to fill the system. However I maintain in practice it is impossible to use and very probably messy! As Peter says, it doesn't help from then on. You would have to just keep filling it up and pouring it out the catch-tank! Graham
  19. wouldn't you want it increased by 1000? Graham
  20. not wishing to disagree Jon (but I will!!) I actually think that the only sure way of getting the right oil level is with a dipstick from the bottom, although Nige manages to use the top loading one. I actually think that the catch tank method is the least reliable method for checking the oil level. I don't think it just pumps out oil until the right level is found. How do you know when it has stopped for example? Graham
  21. quick note that the dipstick method I was talking about is for a seperate dipstick that goes to the bottom of the tank and measures from the bottom. Not the pathetic dipstick that is attached to the top "lid" (using Nig's terminology) and which doesn't seem capable of actually measuring anything and fortunately usually detaches itself automatically so it can be discarded! Graham
  22. that is so, but if you are on track and both using oil and venting it to a catch tank, how do you know when to put more in unless you measure it? Graham
  23. yep, probably right Arnie. Graham
