  1. I'm tracking down some trailer light gremlins in my BJ trailer. I think I have found the problem in one of the little sidelights. However, I've found something odd. I took all the bulbs out so I could check the continuity of the wiring and for most connections it's fine. For the +ve to the sidlights I get about 70 odd ohms from the trailer plug. Is there likely to be a ballast resistor to reduce the brightness of the little sidelights? 70 ohms is about 1/6th amp (roughly) so 2w at 12 volts, so sounds plausible. It also explains the fault I had where the spade connector feed to one of the sidelights was touching the earth (in the light unit). If it had been a dead-short it would've blown a fuse. Does this make sense? Thanks Graham
  2. Quoting keybaud: Please read up on multigrade viscosity before telling me I'm wrong, otherwise we'd all just use a 40 rated oil. There's a reason we don't, but the reason is the opposite of what most people think. The reason you are wrong is that a multi-grade oil works when it is cold and hot. Otherwise by your argument the hot oil in your engine will not lubricate it. If you had a single weight oil, you'd only be able to use it at one temperature. Also why is it common practice in race engines to pre-heat the oil if it's so bad for the engine? Graham
  3. Quoting Steve Newman: Graham, I've always been one of the unwashed 😬 Ahh, yes, that I know. But now part of the great unwashed! Perhaps like me you consider yourself as between 7's! BTW has your 7 always just been aeroscreen, rather than having a screen and it taken off? Graham
  4. Joining the great unwashed Steve! Graham
  5. I am contemplating a project which involves buying a stack of bits I have discovered and bolting them to a chassis which I will also need to acquire. It is early stages, but how many components are different between the two types of chassis? Probably a broad question! So if the answer is "all the suspension" for example that'll steer me in the right direction! Cheers Graham
  6. As above (on a k-series clearly!). Cheers Graham
  7. I have box full of Pi System 1 data logger stuff. It wasn't working on a Radical Sr4 and rather than try to get it to work, it got taken off and stuck in a box. So there's the logger (with 18 connections on the back) and some wires n stuff. Anyone who wants to collect or arrange collection from Epsom can have it. I'll do it on a dibs on here basis (ie post a reply rather than bm me) and if the first dibser doesn't come and get it, I'll move on to the second dibser! Dibs away. Graham
  8. Well that's me well and truly confused EFA.
  9. thanks boss, I'll pop over there.
  10. For Sale: Naim NAC 552 Pre-Amp and Power Supply I am selling this truly awesome pre-amp. It is a few months old and was used in the demo room in the hifi shop I am associated with. It is a pre-amp and power supply in two boxes as seen here It is as new. Retail new they are £15,400. So just on the offchance there are any audiophiles here, I thought I'd offer it here before going out to ebay. I'll be advertising it for £10.5k for it, but happy to accept £9,500 here for a simple sale! Cheers Graham PS I have chosen not to upgrade my own system with the 552 as I need my racing budget for 2012. PPS it's a private sale as I own it personally, not a trade sale. It'd be offered for £14k otherwise!! PPPS The price I have said is currently my bottom price, so I'm not really looking for offers below that at the moment!
  11. no, I think like most modern cars (other than some Radicals) it has driveshafts
  12. Quoting Englishmaninwales: Nah! That's a baby, Webra Speed 61 (10cc) with rear disc induction with 1.2 BHP on tap really gets the boat going.... Still got two of these engines, installed in their hulls, from the late 1970's and from time to time still get a run out! Wonderful!
  13. I reckon that was a good buy at 5895. Anyone on here? Graham
  14. Very upsetting! I really wanted it. But had to give in when the local experts (Dave Charles) pointed out there was nowhere that allowed real engines on the water any more. Graham
  15. Interesting, you are the first person I've come across that prefers the 16s on a caterham! Of course there will no be a deluge of others!
  16. You need to know the height of the centre of mass to work out the load transfer under braking. However, I'm not sure how that helps you with fronts being disks and rears being drums.
  17. The size of the sidewall makes a big difference to the handling. The difference between 13" and 16" rims is huge. I hated running 16" rims on my first caterham. Replacing them with 13s was fantastic. GRaham
  18. Can't we leaven this alone?
  19. I thought at yeast we'd get some decent humour.
  20. Lovely you might want to make it easier to find!
