  1. Hi Martin, I've checked with her again and it's not for her. She wants a smaller lower mileage car. But thanks anyway. Graham
  2. Well seeing as the S3 didn't come out until 68, how is "1966 Lotus 7 Series 3" correct? Graham
  3. I thought people dispensed with the dipstck from the top and made their own to dip from the bottom. 9.5"?? I think I have an original home made R500 dispstick in the garage which is available! Graham
  4. I have used trackvision to do this reasonably successfully. Graham
  5. Hope you don't mind the thought...it might do better with more detail, especially on here. Otherwise have a BTTT on me. Graham
  6. James, I think the 75 would probably be too big anyway, but thanks for bringing it to our attention. The budget has been increased to 3k, but we are still searching. It's amazing how poor the condition is of most used cars! Graham
  7. Interesting Martin, I'd better go and check the Radical race calendar...
  8. Yes depending on dates it might be interesting Martin. Graham
  9. what was the race in Spa? I'd love to race there!
  10. Quoting James_Russell: I thought we might be talking kids & dogs territory! *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* I'll check with Jen tomorrow. It's local I guess?
  11. any idea on the price? I'm not sure it's the right thing for a 24 year girl about town, but you never know! Graham PS yes I agree re insurance!
  12. Looks like it's £450 more to insure than a group 5 car sadly. Still checking out options though. Graham
  13. Quoting MartinP: These cars are so well sorted they make a hero out of an incompetent - ask me how I know . Can you get mine to do that for me please?
  14. Interesting. Do you know the ins group Martin? I had thought it would be expensive for her to get insurance guessing it's about grp 10. Graham
  15. Trying to help my Daughter find a suitable tintop. Needs to be medium sized 5 door hatch, reliable, low ins group all working with a few years of trouble-free life left in it. To be used for some commuting (Clapham to Beaconsfield), zipping round the country and going to Homebase. Trying not to spend more than 2k. Cheers Graham
  16. Standard 1400 was 105. Supersport was about 120, hence the question.
  17. I hope it's not rude to ask, but how does the 1.4 produce 135 bhp? Graham
  18. For a friend, hope that's ok! £30,995. The PH ad is here Very nice Disco 4 with only family use. I'll make a £100 donation to NTL if a blatchatter buys it. Graham
  19. oops, crossed with Roger!
  20. Sorry have to reject that question. If you are going to talk techie about multi-grade oil, that's fine and good. Don't then ruin it by talking about "thicker"
  21. I don't think it is bad. But there are a few facets to the practicalities of it. Ie how do you pre-heat the oil? If you can pre-heat the oil it doesn't feel that good to then send it round a cold engine especially en exotic one. Also if the engine is cold, how much good does pre-heating the oil do? We have been here this season in the Radicals to reduce the number of hours spent running the engine at tickover to warm it up. It takes ages as the Radical has a very efficient cooling system with no temperature control on the oil (ie a great big oil cooler but no thermostat). So we have a kenlowe coolant pre-heater and a heater pad on the DS tank. It does a reasonably good job of reducing the running hours. Trouble is that you rapidly run out of amps at a race circuit, especially with 4 cars under one awning!
  22. Good thoughts there Paul. I took all the bulbs out to measure resistance otherwise it's not possible at all! The BJ trailer does not use the chassis as earth. So there are connectors to split the earth and (where necessary feeds). I don't have a car today with electrics to connect the trailer up to to see if those lights work, but I'm pretty sure they do. Strange! Graham
  23. Quoting keybaud: Out of interest, did you read my follow up post, or just poke sticks at the one you quoted? p.s. If race engines pre-heat an oil, do they even use a multi-grade? Why would they use a multigrade such as 10W40 if you're going to heat it up to behave like a 40 before it gets used? Surely, it would make more sense to just use a 40 weight? Apologies, I missed that there was a second page. Re race engines, we pre-heat the oil for my race engine and do use a multi-grade.
  24. Yes I agree, just strange that is the same both sides and both sides work!
