  1. Just testing 😳 Still testing and even more.... might be able to change sig now...... Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  2. I am looking for some experience!!!..... I have had alot of probs with the notorius oil sender/guage from Caterham......!!!!!!! I am now looking to replace both and fit a twin oil guage, pressure/temp.. temp coming off Apollo.... The question, who does one that is an easy fit, and that works... I have had enough of guessing oil pressure whilst using my right pedal with a heavy foot!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance, I can't be alone in this Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  3. Sounds like I had better go invest again!!! Appllo to be fitted!! The exhaust will probably finish off what is already a good package. I have tb's, ported big valve head, luminition mappable ign etc..... 6spd , track days here I come...... Thanks for your replys Gary 😬 Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  4. Angus, did you go to Caterham for this or purchase eleswhere????? I also see from another thread that you have been playing with the 4-2-1 exhaust - my next upgrade!!!!!!! 😬 Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  5. Peter/Anyone So is the Appollo tank a cheap alternative to dry sumping???.... my novice guess is that for track days, I probably don't need to go the whole hog of a dry sump.... who fits (me??) and how much are the appollo tanks..... .... and thanks for the answers so far, they bear out my initial feelings on this subject!! Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  6. Hi all Well having had my car for a few months now, I am getting a big itch (have the cream - before anyone says it!!!).. to start doing some track days, having done several pre organised ones in the past I am now wanting to try my car out HOWEVER...... .... the guy I got my car from did use the car on the track and said to me when I bought it that for track days, you should top up oil 2 cm over the top of the yellow marker on the dipstick...(I have 1.6kss).... now this seems a little excessive to me and dangerous if overfilled for all the hydraulic reasons..... so anyone with experience knowledge of what is best........ .... no I don't have dry sump before anyone asks..... Thanks Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  7. Rich I have been impressed with Ratrace from a helpful perspective although it has taken a while for the car to be completed, I have confidence that the wait is worth it as they have been rectifying niggles along the way as well and I did have to wait my turn to have the head reworked! However the proof is in the pudding and I will know more soon when it comes back - so long as no other little niggles it should be this weekend - just as the weather breaks into rain!!!!!! Still have to say not discouraged much rather a Caterham than my other choice the TVR, so much more fun!!!! Gary Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  8. Well Rich - not quite such bad luck but getting there!!!!! Bought my 1.6ss (170bhp - Throttle bodies, new and remapped ign - etc....) what a great car, has had flat floor suspension setup the lot and was really pleased with it - already done 700 miles THEN wallop, beginning of August take the boss out in it, just turning up for a lunch and steam starts coming out of vet slats in bonnet............. So get car back bleed system etc, you guessed not resolved. So take car in to Ratrace - head comes off - not head gasket but head has gone porous and where engine had been ported too much metal had been removed and there was not enough metal to repair.... so new head and re-porting now involved. Then as we get to the point of the whole thing being put back together the sump was taken off to re- baffle and although it was apparantly recently replaced the baffle has disintegrated and so now we need to clean out oil pump as a precautionary action... seems these baffels are causing a problem from what I have seen in blatchat recently....... So from a mere head job my bill has also grown massively - hope thats the last of the big ones for a while I would like to drive it and enjoy!!!!! Gary Gary Wheal - 170bhp K Series
  9. Hi Joeseph I too have recently bought a 1600 SS and have experienced the same thing with mine, albeit mine has had substatial tuning done to it thus raising the output - this I thought might be the cause. However, recently using my external battery cutoff (being lazy - working under bonnet) the engine stopped immediatly so I concur with Peter and co that the fan generates some energy - you could always fit a battery cutoff!! 10. Having now had my car for a while and had loads of fun so far it did overheat last week and I am fairly sure I blew the H Gasket, I also have a couple of other things I need to familarise myself with - however all the good Caterham specialists seem to be too far away from me, I am in Madienhead Berks, any one out there who could advise on a good, (competant!!!!) centre Many Thanks Gary
  11. THanks to everyone who has posted, after many attempts to find the right bleeding formula!!, I can now report that one said 7 is now up and running .... so one problem sorted, got another one though, seem to have lost gearbox fluid (red) all over the garage floor, so I guesss we will have to find where thats coming from, dont normally have a problem with that but car was jacked with the front high for quite a while so must have a leak somewhere/!!!!!
  12. ..............these two could be related. Last question was about oil pressure being low!.. Well now heres a further one, I was in car in traffic today when I noticed steam coming through the slats in thebonnet, on investigation the fan was not cutting in. I hotwired the fan and it works so natuarrly you would suspect the sender, however, I have just driven back with the fan on permanently and oit is still running warmer than you would expect with it on constant (about 100 degs). When I have replenish coolent I left the engine running with the cap off the header to let out any air locks, but again something seems wrong as when it gets warm the water is bubbling a fair bit, either one BIG airlock or I am doing something wrong on my first K series!!!! Any hints?? Any one else experienced the same?? Any good advice??? PS New Sender on its way any way. Gary
  13. Thanks guys - will check out the sender first just to answer peters question - tends to idle at 1.5 bar when very hot and does not rise much above 2 bar when under 4-5 000 revs, yet when cold idles at 4 bar. I guess it could be the sender - just want to make sure really. Smally - it was originally a Superport and has been rebuilt using the big valve head - no VVC trickery, forged pistons, solid followers etc..... including remapped ignition, it has been rolling road tested and now shows 170 at 6950! Although I still have a lot to learn and have just joined the club, I am very pleased with the way it performs and drives - only change I would make are the tyres, running Toyos seem to hard.
  14. Hi new to this, have just bought a 1600 k series, with 170bhp on tap, love the car but when warm oil pressure drops to 2 bar, its currently running with Magnatec and would love to hear from you experienced guys as to which oils you find best and is 2 bar a tad low???
