  1. Hi Ian Have you got power where the car is stored? If you have the solution to this problem will cost you about £25. It's an AirFlow Battery conditioner. This conditioner is connected to your battery all the time it is stored, and will keep your battery ready to run all the time. It will save you money in the long run, because the Banner Battery does not take to kindly to being flattened, an will normally needs replacement at a cost of £50. Hope this helps PS I have no connection with Banner or AirFlow, just trying to lower the cost of ownership to fellow enthusiasts. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  2. Hi Chelspeed The truth is I am not disappointed with 122mph. If I making the following assumption, having the accelerator welded to the floor, all the way up the straight would mean I was getting the max out of my VX. Couple this with the fact that I was only hitting the limiter in 6th at the end of the day when I was carrying more speed into the straight, and braking later at the end. It would be pointless having a higher to top speed, at the inevitable cost of slower acceleration. However if the limiter was cutting in mid way down the straight then the gearing would have to be addressed. When I am a better driver (I think that should be if and when) and carry more speed into the straight, the gearing will become a problem. Until that time 122.4mph (.4 is all important) is fine with me. Chris. PS Like the plan with the bolts. 😬

  4. The shift light is a SPA digital unit, It has problems at idle, but who knows how accurate any of this is. I think the final drive must be 3.62:1, not 3.92:1. Many thanks *thumbup* Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  5. The speed comes from a DL90 Data Logger. The speed is from the GPS, not the Caterham POS they call a Speedo . How much effect will tyre wear have on the calculation, ie the ACB10's are near the end of there life, so would this acount for say an extra 100 rpm at that speed. This would mean 7258, 58 rpm after the shift light. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  6. I only know the shift light was set at 7200, the limiter cuts in a little way past that. I assume the limiter is a function of the Caterham supplied MBE 906 inginition unit (this must be a safe assumption) but I don't know the cut point. 7600 seems a little high, and 7160 is below the sift light setting Chris.... 7. I have a 97, DeDion car, with a Caterham 6 sp, powered by a VX 2.0l on carbs. I know that 6th is 1:1. Can anyone tell me the rolling diameter of 7.0/21.0 x13 ACB10’s on 7x13 wheels and the final drive ration I might have fitted???? I hit the rev limiter on the straight in 6th yesterday at Bedford, I have a DL90 fitted which gave a top speed of 122.4 mph, how realistic does this sound?? Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  8. I think a smaller version of a tax disc holder, designed to hold the Mot sticker, or even a combination of tax disc/Mot holder, would make a good accessory. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

    Disc Life?

Thanks - batteredoldsupersport My problem comes from a mark on the disc, made by the track rod end, caused by bad wheel bearing adjustment . If they wear quickly (i.e. 2 sets of pads) then I will not replace the disc (at £280 + pads from an old CC price list). If they are slow wearing it looks like the plastic is going to take a bashing (and my ears when the wife finds out 🙆🏻). Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

    Disc Life?

Hi all Can anyone advise me on the expected life of the front uprated discs 🤔 miles / track days / sets of pads etc etc. Many thanks in advance. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  12. The thread on the front suspension/dust shield has I think given me the cause of the mark in my disc. This weekend I adjusted and re-greased the wheel bearing on this side, and this bearing had a lot of slack, so I suppose the track rod end has caused the damage to the disc. So my only question is should this be replaced before my first Caterham track day ? Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

  14. Is there any blat chatters going to the Essex meeting this week, that have the AP four pots? Maybe I can compare the rattle ☹️ to see if is normal. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  15. Hi SvenDriver Had the same problem, which I solved last year with a strip and paint. The A frame, dedion tube, radius arms, and roll bar all went back to Arch to be re-powder coated. The chassis was stripped, and painted using black enamel. It all looks like new, and cost less than £100 . I don't recommend hammerite, because it has a very soft finish. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  16. Hi All I am getting a large amount of pad rattle from my offside AP four pot. I know the AP four pots have no anti rattle springs, and this is to be expected, however I would expect the same amount or rattle from the nearside. In addition, I have a nasty score on the disc picture here. These discs have covered 1.5K road miles since the previous owner had CC upgrade to AP 4 pots. My question is should I replace the front discs, and pads If I am going to replace the discs it will be with drilled items, so can anyone recommend a supplier PS my first Caterham track day is only 3 weeks away 😬 Chris.... 17. My Caterham alloy fuel cap (purchased jan this year) is no problem at all and is well made. However it is for non fuel injection car (i.e. has no nozzle restrictor, and is vented through the cap). This is very similar to the type sold by DT, just has a Caterham logo. I am sure you could fit this however you would not have a restriction on the type of fuel you use (so you could damage you Cat if fitted 😬 ), and your tank would be vented to atmosphere instead of venting via the caracole canister (not sure of the legal / SVA implications of that). I have fitted vented Monza style fuel caps on late fuel injected Mini's with no running problems, however the restrictor was built into the tank. Hope this helps Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

  20. Well not for sale, just a donation to NTL will do. It’s a Caterham stainless competition silencer 5” for a Vauxhall 16v, and it includes the heat shield. It’s done 5K miles. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

  23. EVO did a tire test last year, with a Goodyear as top dog, and a Conti taking second place. The test scored the tires on all the important stuff for performance road use. Can't remeber the issue Sorry. It's worth a read before you make up your mind. (don't think they tested ACB10's ) Chris.... H15 SVN Get it ! Edited by - ChrisC on 25 Feb 2003 10:57:05
  24. Get a battery conditioner from Airflow, it will cost you less that the price of a new battery, and it will solve all your battery problems (provided you remember to connect it that is) Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  25. Hi All Something different! My late father’s restoration project, a very original and early Mk1 Riley Elf. The parts have been restored as they have been removed, and many new parts. . I know this is not the normal stuff on here, but we are all car people here, so you might know someone looking for a new challenge. I want the car to be restored and not just broken for parts, as I know this would have been my fathers wish. Hope you can help Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
