  1. I have a post 93 Vauxhall XE on carbs in a 97 built car . I bought the car with this confuguration, and all the numbers matched from the original CC invoice 😬. My car also had an MBE906 ( still in the process of a change after a track day killed it off ) I bought the car second hand last year, so I have not had the problem of the SVA, not even sure it was introduced then. I will email you a potentail solution to the engine age problem. Chris..
  2. Yep its going to be replaced with a 967e, I will only use 3d ignition to begin with, but later I will convert to TB's. Thanks for the Info Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  3. 😬 Thanks Boys Is the rest OK?
  4. From all this talk about the fuel supply / return. I take it this is the main area of work for the conversion. So have I got this right 🤔 Carb Tank (normal outlet) to Fuel Filter (uprated?) to Carb Fuel Pump to Swirl Pot (which include a pump) to (under high pressure) Fuel Rail (and Injectors) returned by Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator along Original Carb Fuel line to Modified Filler Hose for return to tank Please correct because this is my main area of confusion Loom made, according to the ECU manufacture, and modified for two fuel pumps (I will also include a Inertia switch for safety) This I have no problem with. TBs built onto the manifold, and dressed according to the TB manufacture. ECU map (beg form fellow blatchatter hopefully 😬) to get it started. Then to the rollers for a mapping session. Drive home and enjoy and crack open a cold beer, or better still don’t open a beer and drive some more. 😬 Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  5. OK - I am going to keep am open mind on the swril pot option. Assuming a SBD pot was selected where does this get mounted 🤔 If I go Injection Tank, the fuel guage sender will need to be added to my shopping list. Any more pit falls?
  6. Don't like that idea, think the Injection tank will stay on the list. I will need a new fuel pump so it might as well be the intank style. Don't want to run two pump, for many reasons, like weight, more to go wrong etc etc. Also, assumption I can offset the cost of a new tank with the sale of my good carb tank. So I am not sure there will be alot in the cost between the two options. Is there any thing I have missed off my list? Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  7. Where is the Swirl Pot located? (not physically) In between the tank outlet and the fuel pump 🤔 Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  8. Lionel - I will buy new, or I would want to see the parts before I buy (had a bad experiences in the past) so the eBay stuff is not of interest. Peter - List updated now reads 1 x Fuel Tank (injection) Remove mods to tank for return fuel line Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  9. I know plenty of you have done a throttle body conversion, can you help me with my shopping list. My car is a VX XE 97 on carbs with a coil pack (and a very dead ECU ☹️ ) The conversion must retain the twin K&Ns look (orders from the wife, or no funds) 1 x ECU 1 x pair throttle bodies DCOE equivalent 1 x fuel rail 4 x injectors 4 x Ram pipes 1 x pressure regulator 1 x throttle pot set of connectors to make loom (I can do this) a return fuel line mods to tank for return fuel line 1 x Fuel Pump suitable for injection. map for above (hoping a blatchatter can give me a good starting point) Assumptions I can reuse the original coil pack, and crank sensor. 10. Thanks Arnie and Stu. OK the ECU is dead. So I am in the market for a new ECU. But this to me is the golden opportunity to do a throttle body conversion, which the wife have given the go ahead for [:]] if I keep the original look of the car ie K&N’s. From web surfing this weekend I think (and correct me if I am wrong) I can get throttle bodies which are direct replacements for DOCE carbs. I know this is not optimal because of the Caterham manifold, but it keeps the look of the car and the wife happy. I am going to check with my favourite rolling road, Peter Baldwins in Cambridge, remember I came from Minis, which ECU he prefers and this will determine the direction I choose. I know plenty of you have done this conversion, so can anyone help me compile a shopping list. 😬 Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  11. Thanks, do you know what component was used? I assume it was a replacement for the VB020, which started life in 1984 - now long dead... unfortunately I can't seem to forget it ☹️ Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  12. I have spent the morning (and most of the afternoon) testing. 1 and 4 are dead ☹️ I only have a digital voltmeter, which is no good for looking at the signals from the ECU to the coil pack, so after a brain wave I plugged my DL90 datalogger on the coil pack signals from the ECU. The trace for 2 and 3 shows varying voltage dependent on revs, but the trace for 1 and 4 is flat at 12v. I think this is proof that the ECU ignition sink for 1 and 4 is duff. I have obviously checked this at both the ECU end of the wire and the coil pack, just in case the wire has broken. The ECU is a MBE 906. I think its replacement time, but I would like to test this. Dose anyone have an MBE 906 kicking around after a ECU or Injection upgrade. I would not replace it with another 906, (I am not sure I still can) its upgrade time but its to put my mind to rest. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  13. OK its both 1 and 4 thats down ☹️ Its fine for about 1 min when started from cold. I suspect its the coil pack, but how can i check 🤔 Anyone in my area have a VX post 93 engine 🤔 Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  14. Hi All I am having a problem with a misfire. It started after a track session, but only on a short drive to get more fuel, and cleared before I returned to the pits. It then ran all afternoon on the track, and also the drive home, without problem. The car has not been used for a couple of weeks, then on a run out it started again. Now it is permanent. ☹️ Its number one, and I have swapped the plugs, and the misfire still remains at number one. I have also checked with a colour tune and I can’t see a spark. I can’t swap the plug leads, because no other lead will reach. But I have tested the leads with a multi meter, and both one and two give a 2.5K resistance. (if that means anything) I have not carried out a compression test yet (need to collect the tester), and I have no oil and water contamination. The engine is a post 93 coil pack carb unit, so it does not have a distributor. Can any body offer any advise, or better still can I borough a plug lead from anyone local 🤔 In need Chris ☹️ Chris.... Which Diff ?

Steve - I appreciate your comments, but it is nice to know other have had good experience with a product and also the customer support should a product fail. AVES - I am going to stick with my 3.62 CWP ratio, because my car was fitted when I purchased it with 13” and the Caterham 6sp. Even with a windscreen it can hit the limiter in 6th on the long straight at Bedford aerodrome (my fav track), so I see no point in changing it at the moment. My main problem with the car is traction out of the tight bends, when the inside wheel is spinning off all the power, even with warm ACB10’s, hence the thread. From all this info, I know what type of diff I am going for, clutch plate type, make well ZF or Tran-X, and have a good Idea of the cost, budget say around £1K. (£600 if Mrs Collins is reading ) Look like I have a winter project. Thanks All Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  17. Just thinking out loud. PS note to self, stop thinking. 😬 Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

  19. My Raceco can with a standard VX on cards (which make the majority of the noise) 99db static and below 87db drive by, at Bedford. The Raceco can is top notch, as is the customer service. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

    Which Diff ?

mmmmm donutsvoice> So assuming a plate type diff, the Tran-X is the recommended choice then. Any idea on cost, because prices are not listed on there website. Chris. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

    Which Diff ?

Hi Chelspeed Loads of info, thanks Do you know what type and make was used in the VX HPC spec? From your info I think I would be looking at a plate type, ZF or Salisbury, my car has very little tendency to understeer (helped by widetrack, ACB10's and a lump of iron called the VX XE). I am not worried by noise. What type of cost am I looking at for the ZF or Salisbury diff.? Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !

    Which Diff ?

I am currently thinking about fitting a LSD to H15 SVN, however I cant find a copy of What Diff in the newsagents so, can you enlighten me to the pros and cons of the various types of LSD on the market, and there likely cost 🤔 I know that some LSDs need to be setup, so I am assuming I will take my current diff unit to be rebuilt and setup by a specialist, so what type of cost will this service set me back 🤔
  23. I will second the Raceco exhaust, great product, and great customer service. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  24. Lower your front tyre pressures to about 15 psi, and increase your rear tyre pressures to reduce rolling resistance. If you have adjustable shock, then set your rear shocks as hard as they go, when you lunch the back of the car will want to squat down (good for rear wheel drive, bad for front wheel drive), this will help a little. Burn out, try three small burns, instead of one, but get plenty of heat into the front tyres. Don’t run with a cold engine, remember your oil takes about three times the length of time to warm up when compared to the water. Near worn out road tyres don’t give as much grip as new freshly scrubbed road tyres, road tyres generate grip from the flex of the tyre blocks in the tread, the more worn the tread block the less flex, the less grip. Road tyres do not act like slicks when they are bald! Hope this helps. PS remember to reset your tyre pressures and shock before your set of home. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
  25. Yep - Got mine at Halfauds, no problem, and no problems winding the calipers back, well worth the dosh. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
