  1. Mankee - thats a distinct possibility. The car was ex-Academy, and would have had the side protection, so I assume this is why the longer bolt was fitted. It was lose and someone had tired to pack the 120 bolt with lots of washers. Grubbster - The a-frame was packed, poorly on the side with the long bolt garybee - This is a distinct possibility, the bolts where way to tight, had to dig out an extension handle to undo the broken side and the de dion tube fitting, but is this enough to snap the a-frame ?
  2. Hi All Had a little problem this weekend with my A-Frame. It snapped 😳 I got a small knocking noise after a trackday, which sounded like loose handbrake cables when braking on the way home, took the car out last weekend for a gentle drive (had my 9 year old daughter in the car) where the noise much worse very quickly. When home rocking the car with the handbrake on, there was a snap, and the left hand mount of the a-frame parted company Photo I had to wait a bit for Caterham to have them in stock, before i took it apart, where I found the wrong bolt fitted to the right hand side of the car. According to the manual a M12 x 100 bolt should be used on the a-Frame to chassis fitting, but on the Right hand side I had a M12 x 120 bolt and this meant there was some play in the A-Frame to chassis fitting on the side that did not snap. So my question. 1, Where should that M12x120 bolt have been used? I feel the need to check where that bolt should have been used. 2, Do you think the wrong bolt on the RHS, allowing play in the a-frame to chassis fitting on the RHS would explain the snapping of the a-frame on the LHS. Hope you can help Chris.
  3. Hi all first thanks for all you replies. There was no problem before I changed the oil before the track day and I only did it hand tight, so I am hoping a cracked block is not the cause. The oil filter was supplied not in a box, but with just a thin plastic cover over the top/seal, so it could have easily been dropped before I purchased it, I know it was not dropped after. For the cost of an oil filter I will just swap it again, only lubing the seal and putting the 3/4 turn from the touching point. Being Sunday, this means I will have to wait until Monday evening for the next attempt, fingers crossed. Chris.
  4. it looked very clean when fitting, and it got worse after a track day (assume this is the first time I have got it really warm :-) ) Going to give the glove a go to see it I can get any more on it. Chris
  5. Hi All I seem to have lost the power to change an oil filter. I have not change oil in one of my cars for years, in fact I think my last seven (some ten years ago) was the last oil change I did. But this oil filter I recently fitted to my sigma is leaking, and thats never happened to me before. The process I used to fit the oil filter was as follows 1, put a small amount of clean oil into the filter to prime it. 2, lubricate the seal with some clean oil 3, tighten by hand, clean and tighten again by hand. I fitted a ford genuine part (from the local dealers) and the part number matched the one coming off the car 1 714 387 (it think from memory) which was not leaking. There are pictures on the oil filter showing a "service tool" to tighten the filter 3/4 turn from the point the filter touches the block, is that needed? Have I not got the filter tight enough? If I need a "service tool" any clue / part number of what I should get will be helpful. Chris.
  6. I used a M2 lock nut and a standard riveter over the weekend, very pleased with the tight poppers that it produced. Chris.
  7. I did see that site last night, but he only lists cp3915-42-ds25hp and not 44 :-( If they are road pads I am not impressed :-( Chris.
  8. I agree, I can't see how the flare can leak like that, unless the pipe end is damaged in some way or the pipe is cracking. I suppose it would be possible to try re flaring the pipe, but a replacement would be my first choice solution. Chris.
  9. Hi All I have tried to search for some information on the front pads fitted to my recent purchase, but have draw a bit of a blank. The car is an Ex-Academy 2011 sigma, with standard front brake callipers. The pad appears to be an AP Racing pad, with the markings cp3915-44-ds25hp. I am trying to find out what type of pad this is, is it a race pad then will only work well once hot? If it is then it would explain my current concern about the initial bite from my brakes. The only reference point I have for Caterham brakes was a car fitted with the CC big brake kit, some ten years ago. I am not saying my car wont stop, and I am aware the 7 does not have a servo, just they don't inspire confidence on the road, which I am sure was not a problem with my old car. It maybe a pad more suited to my usage pattern is all thats required, but if I can't find information about the fitted AP pad, its difficult to know where I am starting from. i.e. if I was starting form M1144s I know this is a good all-round road / track day pad. Hope some one can help Chris.

  11. I can't wait. Le Mans last weekend was fab, and now I am at F1 Sat and Sun this weekend. That's an awful lot of spa days I have to 'allow'(!) SWMBO as recompense! Weather looks better on Sun, so tin top tomorrow and the 7 will get an outing on Sunday. Would love a post in spotted if you see C7MUC. You got your wish Mucus72 :-) Chris.
  12. White, I think the reg was C7MUC Chris.
  13. Thanks Mike, thanks the starting point I was looking for :-) Is that "document" in electronic form by any chance? and if yes can you send it to me? Chris.
  14. Hi All I have just purchased an ex 2011 Academy car that has had a significant cosmetic make cover, as my car to return me back to Caterham ownership after a 10 year absence. The make over included the swap to 205/55 R13 CR500 on the rears, and on the way home I noticed the speedo was not a accurate as it could. I have looked up the speedo calibration process and the revs per mile from the Avon site, but I don't know the number pulses per revolution from the wheel sensor. So can someone assist me with the following. - The correct setting for a 2011 Academy car, so I can reverse calculate the correct setting for 205/55R13 CR500's? or - The number of pulses per wheel revolution? or - The correct setting for 205/55R13 CR500's? My speedo is the electronic type with the single button. Many thanks is advance. Chris.
  15. To balance this out, I had 2 golf Mk5 bluemotions, purchased within a month of each other, one did 23,000 miles in 2 year, the other 9,000 miles in 2 years. The 23,000 mile car had one recall for a DPF sensor, but this was replaced during the normal servicing. Both cars never had any DPF problems (or any other problems for that matter) during ownership. Chris.
  16. I have a DL90 installed, and the basic install was very simple. All I needed was a secure mounting point, I screw it to my boot floor, a power supply and a flat steel area for the magnetic GPS aerial, I used the base of my FIA roll bar. Initial results with the DL90 were variable, and the problem was diagnosed to be the GPS aerial. Race Technologies has improved this from the initial released units, and upgraded sensors give much improved results. I have extended my install to include, rpm, and a remote start/stop. I am going to include oil pressure, braking flag and throttle position over winter. Chris.... H15 SVN Get it !
