  1. It's probably not this, but it's worth noting that, as Kermit is flat-floored for me alone, whenever I take a passenger (particularly a large one) on a track day, the FR wheel ALWAYS locks before the left and it tends to understeer. Kick out the ballast and the two wheels lock at the same time and the car is beautifully balanced with a slight tendency to oversteer.
  2. It sounds like a sticky thermostat to me. Take it out and stick it in a pan of water. Bring the water heat the water and note what temperature the 'stat opens to eliminate this from your investigations...
  3. If you've got Tillets, you just need to drill a couple of holes in the seat of each one, then you don't have the water pooling problem.
  4. 'it tries but never does' - what does this mean, does the starter-motor turn the engine over but it doesn't fire? If so then I would say all your symptoms point to an immobiliser problem. The only 2 things an immobilised K-series 7 wont do are: 1. open injectors 2. produce a spark.
  5. Geez no need to shout! So does it have the other symptoms I described?
  6. Does anyone have any experience of these things leaking Diesel? I'm sure that it's leaking and I think it's coming from the stop solenoid seal. Before I order a new O-ring and take the thing apart, I wondered if anyone else can confirm that this is a seal that is known for going, or if it's likely to be leaking from somewhere else on the pump... Ta
  7. Maybe you need to reset the immobiliser as the RAC guy almost certainly disconnected the battery. You do this by pressing the arming button 4 times (wait for the click of the relay from under the dashboard between each one) then disarm. You can tell that it's the immobiliser giving you grief because: 1. When you switch the ignition to ON you hear the whirr of the fuel-pump 2. When you turn the ignition to START (or press the button) the engine turns over, but never starts HTH
  8. I used the Emerald pin documentation to make an adaptor so that the EU3 loom plug plugs into it, and the adaptor plugs into the Emerald. Therefore, I must have addressed this problem without knowing it. From memory I can tell you that all the connections in the adaptor are simply 1-1. I disconnected the IACV though. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions drop me a blatmail and I'll go and have a look in the garage to try and help you.
  9. Glad that you managed to get your tickets changed :)

  11. BTTT - surely they must be useful to someone!!
  12. Steve, yes. Only on track though thankfully. I think it may have been to do with those nasty tyres + passenger as they screw up the corner weight. Either way, I think I'm now far more confident and competent on the AO21s
  13. I started on Avon Fuel saving tyres and found the car swapping ends at the slightest provocation. I agree that the hard tyres will encourage smoothness in the long run, but the advantage of the AO21 s is that they let go gently, so rather than realising that you shouldn't have lifted off as you come to a rest backwards in a ditch (or oncoming traffic if you're on a left-hander), you realise that you shouldn't have lifted off as you apply some opposite lock to correct the slide. -it's not the overall stickiness that really makes the difference for me, it's the progressive nature of the tyre. CHANGE THEM NOW!!!

    Axle Stands

Surely the whole weight of the rear of the car is put through the DD tube via the springs when the car is simply standing on its wheels, yes they have been known to crack, but that's when driving IIRC.

  18. no, only have to do that if you've removed the FIA key - you don't even turn the ignition to "off" if you stall - that's why the big red starter button is good for the track "if" you spin and stall all you have to do is press the button and off you go again.
  19. "Just spoke to Caterham Tech, and they say that as long as the red light is not on, then the immobiliser is disarmed and the car should run." - sorry to be a pedant, but this is just crap - the red light will be off if there's no battery in the car! - stupid point I know, but it serves to prove that this is a very simplistic answer and the truth is a lot more complicated. I have an academy car with a Master cutout switch and a starter button. I never leave the cutout key in the car, so I have to go through this procedure every time I start the car... 1. Check that ignition is OFF and gearstick in neutral! 2. Put in FIA key and turn 3. Press the "lock" button on the plipper 4 times with a pause between each press - each time you press it you should hear a "click" from the immobiliser (on the bulkhead above the steering column). After pressing 4 times and having the immobiliser click its acknowledgement 4 times, the relay will click a few more times by itself and the red light will be flashing. 4. Press unlock once and the red light should stop flashing 5. Turn ignition to ON (listen for IACV to burble about, and fuel pump to whine) 6. Press big red button NB, if when you turn the ignition on the light goes constant red, then you haven't unlocked the immobiliser. Good luck. PS where are you, if anywhere near Edinburgh, I'd be happy to help...

  21. If it looks a bit sharp why not file it down?
  22. Myles, if you get the right plug it is possible to rig up an adaptor to use an EU3 loom with the emerald (EU2) plug.
  23. Sell the heater and buy and Irvin flying jacket.
