  1. I've been pestering various local engineering places for some 0.001" shim stock without success. I can easily get an 8' roll of the pesky stuff, but I only need a fag packet sized piece. Anyone got any suggestions of the sort of industry that uses shim material, or better yet anyone got some they could post me for beer tokens / NTL? Not bothered whether it's steel /stainless /brass.

  4. Just phoned up my Ford dealer for 4 of these, and fell of my chair when he told me £6 each! Probably plus vat as well. They are Ford part number 1637281. Do Redline or Caterham or somebody do these at a reasonable price?

  6. Junk it. Mine was registered from new without one, and has never caused a problem since.
  7. Just OOI, is it throttle by wire, or do you have a good old fashioned throttle cable? I sympathise with your plight, but have a nagging suspicion that the manufacturers have engineered out the throttle response, because Joe Average finds it 'jerky'.

I've had my 7500 mile JW Alcons apart, and aside from an even film of brake dust around the piston top there wasn't any sign of nastiness. It's also worth considering how few aftermarket calipers have full dust seals. If I read the Hispec catalogue right, they use 4 x 34mm pistons which is very close to the area of 2 x 48mm Triumph pistons, so no.
  9. Must admit I'm in two minds about this as well. The heated 'stat is trick, and obviously has benefits but I wonder whether those benefits are worthwhile enough on a sports car that's got a fairly narrow range of use to justify the aggro. Dunno, maybe if Emerald get it singing sweetly it'll be less of a dilemma.
  10. There's charmap, or if you want to do the keyboard shortcut to insert the ASCII character for the pound sign, hold down the Alt key and type 0163 on the numeric keypad.
  11. That would be a blinder Norman. This isn't a long term requirement, but certainly no problem waiting a week or so for you to sort the paperwork.
  12. Only advice I can think of is to practise a few times on a bit of spare pipe to see what length proud of the clamp you need. The single flare is pretty easy but the double flare has a knack to it. Pretty important to get the former perpendicular to the pipe with the double flare.
  13. Does the SV use a bespoke, wider than widetrack rack, or is it just a normal widetrack rack with extension pieces? Looks like the former from Angus' CSR launch pics. How do the rack arms attach to the rack inside the gaiter? Are these arms available separately? TIA
