  1. If you are limited for space you may want to give some thought to headroom for an engine crane in case it is an issue with your garage. Mobile axle stands probably will position the chassis a bit higher off the floor even on lowest settings. The beam of your engine crane will need to get the engine plus gearbox sloping almost vertical as you lower them into position. I had overhead clearance challenges and opted to put the car on wheels before installing the engine.
  2. An afterthought....... Have you tried removing the leather headrest cover and seeing if the inner foam can be adapted for your requirements. Whilst only anoraks are likely to be aware of this, there is a zip around the rear perimeter of each head rest which gives you access.
  3. Sorry sjl1 my car has the standard floor so no idea if the adjuster will get trapped.
  4. The cap heads at the rear are a pain. You'll need to remove the seat cushions, headrests, and slide the seats as far forward as possible to get visual access. I use a ball end allen key with a socket drive and a couple of interconnected ratchet to socket extension bars. The general idea is to slide the ball end allen key down behind the seat backs with the extension bars fitted and engage the cap head bolt. The extension bar length selection will give room above the seat back to get a ratchet working. An extra pair of hands is useful to hold the bolts on the underside of the floor pan whilst you ratchet from above. For the allen key the cap head is an M8.
  5. Good result ! Before you put the tunnel cover back on you might want to pop the gearshift off and check the oil in the selector turret. On the 5 speed box, the oil in the selector turret is separate from the main box. MX5 owners have found the shift quality can deteriorate over time as the oil migrates into the main box. A top up / periodic check is recommended by Mazda as a preventative measure.
  6. That sounds like a plan! As an additional check, what about testing for current will flow through the the 2 blue wires exiting the switch by engaging / disengaging reverse. If it all works don't forget to make sure all the wires are tied away from the handbrake mechanism.
  7. Rich the connectors on both sets of wires look, from my photo below, like one is male and the other is female. The fact that both sets of leads on your car appear to be connected is possibly just for tidyness particularly if your car started life on track and didn't need a reverse light. Are there any tied back leads on your main loom that runs along the inside of the transmission tunnel? OK
  8. It's not a great service and frustratingly DVLA will not respond to any queries to check that they have received your application until 6 weeks have elapsed. Mine took just over 5 weeks at this time of year.
  9. Rich, FYI there are 2 switches mounted into the LH side of the Mazda gearbox. Each have econoseal connectors after a few inches of wiring. The reversing light switch is the rearmost of the switches and it is mounted high up on the side of the gear selector housing. Should you have to check if there is any loom connection to the reverse light switch on your box, you will need to remove the transmission tunnel cover to get access.
  10. I notice that mine will stay put where my tintops will roll on the same piece of road. I put it down to several differences e.g. lots of lightness, very low centre of gravity, big sticky tyres on low pressures with lots of rolling resistance, and Stu's point about quirky steering geometry of Sevens.
  11. A couple of things that you may not have considered............ Is it worth checking that the master cylinder return springs/pistons are not sticking a little when the pressure is taken off, and that the cap is venting properly? Also, is the top of the brake pedal set in the highest resting position relative to the available threads on the master cylinder plunger? From your recent IVA are there any clues in the recorded brake efficiency readings?
  12. As Jonathan says CC can supply. If the fob is a similar shape to a suppository it will be a Sterling Excel unit. Supplied by Scorpion I believe. Paring instructions are in the Owner Manual (for the fob not the suppository).
  13. With the pedal not returning to the top of it's travel how far short of full return does it achieve? If it doesn't fully return what happens if you lift the pedal back up with your toe?
  14. Am I correct that your car has not had a reverse light assembly fitted previously? If so it could be that the connection to the switch in the gearbox has not been made.
  15. Thanks for the feedback Graham and I'm pleased that it all worked out.
  16. This is the stuff you need, it's a velcro on steroids and available on Ebay 3M SJ3550 BLACK DUAL LOCK SUPER HEAVY DUTY VHB ADHESIVE
  17. Avoiding butt joining the 2 ends of each strip on any curvature helps. Because of the wing thickness, mine have remained firmly in place without any sealer or adhesive using the standard kit IVA rubber. I was going to remove the strips after the IVA but changed my mind.
  18. Re Richard's point, it may be worth mentioning that many standard rivet gun heads do not fit fully into the popper base 100%. When the rivet shank breaks off you can end up with the popper base being rivetted but loose against the window frame. Perhaps try a test with your gun and a popper beforehand. I had to get my gun head modified in a lathe to fit the poppers.
  19. Thanks Chris I'll have a play.
  20. Chris how do you go about coding? I've never heard of it and would be interested to learn what's involved.
  21. A 3/32 inch hole fixes the hood popper base around the wheel arch. Length of rivet I'd guess to suit whatever is behind it.
  22. I'm inclined to agree with Geoff. The TPMS transponder in each wheel will probably communicate the internal pressure over a generic BMW frequency to the abs sensor in the hub that it sits next to,and this is where the in car display gets it's orientation. After a rotational swap the tyre pressure reset option in the car settings menu will need to be activated from the dash display. Note that with the Mini space saver spare wheel option, I recall Mini advise to never to run a space saver on the front wheels (so a flat front has to be replaced with a wheel from the rear) which suggests that rotating the wheels isn't going to upset the cars brain. Please keep us informed of what you do.
  23. I flooded the interiors of mine with a flexible cavity wax, but left the ends open.
