  1. Sent you a message. Whilst I do like the older look, the Super light (search for Nigel Pughs posts/blog would be my dream 'new build'. It looks both modern and trad. IMHO.
  2. I did a slalom and a drift day before picking up my car, gave me extra confidence and also realised I'd prefer to use someone else's car. Not fussed about track days, (can't see the point of 'not' racing) but I get my race thrills elsewhere on planks of wood (skateboards) i regard my Cat as a fast cruiser, hence the leather seats, leather tunnel, spare wheel etc. But boy is it good in corners, twisties and b roads. It'll cruise at 70, I'm happy. It's also fast. I had mine painted a Morgan colour (Connaught green), which appeals to my sense of humour, I like Morgans, a friend has one, a 4/4... Which since I got my Caterham he is planning to sell and do a racier 2 seater version Morgan.... Who knows, perhaps he'll get a Caterham instead. I'll try.... I do feel Morgan's are a bit ' flat hat' for me though.

Further to my previous posts and got the sake of the 'archive', in the less time pressured atmosphere of working on the car at home I did the following: Moved pedal to nearer the driver position and greased the tubular bearing with lithium grease. Golfjuliettango, I think this will address any sticking at pedal side, cheers. Looked at where the return springs are at the Webers and saw that the nose side return spring is fixed to a less beefy bracket and that it seemed ever so close to the Weber body, so I bent it away to avoid any scraping as it moves up and down and now the whole assembly seems very free flowing.
  4. Quick'ish' fix was detaching it and spraying wd40 (no 3in 1 on board) down to soak overnight. Freed it up enough and a nice long drive to Dunkirk has seemed to worked as well. Will replace cable at earliest op once home. thank you for your tips, great to be able to do a running repair with your advice and guidance, cheers!
  5. I haven't ventured down the pedal area (yet).... But at throttle end I can pull cable and it appears free running, but pedal is 'sticky'. I do have spare throttle cable with me. Currently away from home so can I ask what is involved to replace cable, do I have to open pedal box from engine bay? Or is the free end of my new cable threaded through that to appear down by pedals?
  6. Seem to have a sticky throttle, revs then slowly release back down. And by hooking toe under throttle to release it eases off. happened after it got hot today. I have wd40d around pedal and near weber linkage. Feels like the cable is sticking in the tube? Any suggestions?

  8. They may want to contact the supplier, BUT it's the sellers responsibility. Your contract is with them, not their supplier. AND distant selling regs apply. You can return for any reason for refund within a certain time, but must pay for returns IF that's in the t&cs on purchase. Otherwise it's up to them to pay for returns and that would be the case if the items are damaged. I run an online business and have refunded according to distant selling regs, customers are often surprised that after asking if they can return something (things like gloves being too small) and we refund with no quibbles. It's the law, but I find customers don't know it and are pleasantly surprised and long term works out best for us. If an item is returned that is faulty I pass it back to my supplier. I deal with it. But in the meantime I refund the customer.

  10. Ahhhh dre' s. Whoops. After I had intermittent starting issues (annoying)... I took to packing a mini type lithium starter in my tool bag just in case until I got it all sorted. Still keep it in there. Just to get me out of trouble. Or others... And makes a handy phone charger backup. Needed to use it twice when the fault came back. The voltmeter tucked away on the knee panel (visible when driving) just gave me indication as when and if the alternator was working properly. I tracked mine down to a faulty alternator. But I did treat myself to a new battery as belt and braces... I use 12v batteries for my race timing kit so the original is used there instead. Along the way I beefed up the earths from the battery, and took the opportunity while working on the alternator to put a proper waterproof plugs on it as it was pretty prone to damp down there. I had had enough of parking at the top of hills just in case I needed a bump start. Good luck.
  11. If the DRLs are LEDs , do you have them directly plugged in at 12v or do they have a box to switch them on and off at high rate (quicker than the eye can see) to save on battery? This is why when cars are filmed on telly you often see the lights flickering on and off, similar to the effect of propellor blades being hard to film. Our eyes see the lights as permanently on. I have a vdo voltmeter tucked into the knee panel on the passenger side so I can see if the battery is charging at 14.5 v on the move. But you can of course check with a multimeter when static.

  13. I bought an Sj m10, along with a Tascam dr-05 digital recorder. I also got and external mike for it, but shouldn't have bothered . This means I do have to edit the sound on the clips but does mean I can put recorder anywhere out of the wind.
  14. I wouldn't worry about factory built, at that price and age it shouldn't make an appreciable difference. You can convert to cycle wings, mine has been and doesn't have any signs of the five rivet holes down the side as it was resprayed and filled nicely. i found when I was looking every car in my price range seemed to have cloth seats, I bought leather seats for £150, so don't let your (nice) wish list blinker you too much. i had a similar budget but ended up paying slightly more for a dealer sourced 7 with fresh respray to my spec, cycle wings and seats fitted. The car was supplied as a kit originally, but delivered to a seven garage who built it. Good luck with your search.
  15. I thought it was steep as my Fiat 500 is £30 a year. (It's zero on another 500 in the range, but costs £1200 more to buy...but the salesman seemed to think the zero rating outweighed that. He's right, ifs I'd kept it for 30 years!). Mind you, I felt this was more than offset by how cheap the 7 is to insure. I was amazed how cheap it was. Can't be too long before the road tax is free as my 7 is getting on too.
  16. My fuses do run vertically. Car (X flow, 96) was assembled from a kit by a dealer, supplied direct by Caterham which may explain differences?

  18. Cheers! I'll let him know. I parked my standard for Cat on his drive and he was surprised how small it was and said I wonder if an SV could tuck away down the side... Another thing to tick of his list of reasons to get one, hopefully.

  20. I had to fit a full roof to mine after I picked one up on EBay. Whilst I have never used it in anger I wanted imy 7 to be 'complete'. I've found the half hood to be ideal and having driven 2 hours in pouring rain in Belgium I didn't find any rain got into the 7, this may be due to my aerodynamics, I have a spare wheel on the back? To make my full hood fit I had to play about a lot with the rear most strut position, to the point I'm not sure whether it's needed in operation. After I put the pop studs in its a tight fit. Try to fit in the warm, the tip I've heard is to drape it over the bonnet for a bit. ( silly if it's raining....) If it looks like you may need the full hood up I'd put it down the passenger well to get warm if you can plan ahead.
  21. I saw a mod that was simply a pipe to the foot well and a sink plug. The driver could press on the modern style sink plug to open and close the vent.
  22. I always.use liquid lighter fuel for sticky stuff removal. Cheap and available at most shops that sell cigarettes.
  23. Cheers for the info, I did try google but Blatchat knowledge is better. Brilliant. Will prob source a bulb or two for spares/repair..
  24. Turned out more involved than thought, it had a blown bulb too, but cannibalised a spare rocker I had to get at the mini bulb and swap.
