Yes, I think you're right. Michael Stallard gets his in a couple of weeks. Mine arrives in March. How does it feel to be a trailblazer...? The price has gone up since we ordered, though, at least.

Could be. Your description makes sense. The strong pull/engine braking feels a bit like the engine is being sucked - just my imagination though.

Interesting perspective on running in 'hard'. For my last Ducati, I was advised a somewhat similar idea: get to the top of a long drag with a warm engine, then repeatedly coast down in a high gear, with the throttle at zero. His explanation was that the rings would be 'sucked' outwards onto the cylinder walls, and wear evenly. A more moderate approach to Mototuneusa, but the same idea.

For what it's worth, the 160 manual specifies bump-steer spacers under the rack. I realise that the skinny wheels may mean that the geometry on the 160 is a bit different. Ned

You could ask the guys at CC South to take a few pics for you. They've got the cutaway 160 in their reception, and the Top Gear one on the showroom floor. Really helpful guys too. If I was a bit nearer, I'd go and do it - I'd planned to take a bunch of photos of their build for exactly the same reason. Ned

Did either of you pretreat the chassis with Waxoyl/Dinitrol? Can't remember if you mentioned it, sorry... There is loads of debate and advice on the forum about it.

It sounds like you're facing quite a few missing bits and pieces. It's a shame - and surely must cost Caterham a silly amount in courier bills to keep resupplying you. Look forward to your next update though! Ned

Which makes it odd that it costs over £100 on the order form... You can get one off eBay for about 3 quid! I am intending to put a second one - actually with 2xUSB sockets - between the seats on the rear bulkhead. By the way, have a look at the new R500 blog on here by Daniel. His descriptions and photographs of electrical and other tricky bits are superb.

Out of interest, what did they charge for the FIA bar? Did the nominal cost of the normal rollover bar get subtracted from the price...?

Congrats Peter on your new arrival! Shame to hear about the frame, and having to Hammerite it. Not great. If the chassis is on axle stands, did you creep underneath to do this? Just wondering how heavy the chassis is and whether it can be easily supported upside down first (like Westfields do I think). For pics, hit the pic button on the toolbar above the message (13th one along), then hit 'Browse Server'. Once you're here, you can upload pics from your hard drive to your space on the Blatchat server. And then select the photo you want, and it should appear in your draft message. The format/size/shape can look a bit weird, but if you hit 'Preview' below, it should sort itself out and you can then Post. Hope this helps, and good luck. Ned

You're right. The Register photo above, and the video from underneath both look like it's swung over a little. I guess there can't be too many ways to get the engine mounts to fit the chassis. As long as the carb is clear of the engine cover, then I guess all should be well!

Dumb question: if you've got a filler and drain plug, what's the point of a level plug? A dipstick would be less hassle, I'd have thought. It's possible that this was easy to get to in the Suzuki original, but is inaccessible in a 7 chassis. I could very easily be wrong about all the above

I think there are a ton of posts about this in blatchat - if you can find them... Also there's a link here about how to do this. I'm going to get a 12v cig lighter to place in the dash (to charge the battery, via an always-on space on the fuse box the other side of the scuttle), and then a weatherproof (capped) 12v-sized USB charger to fit between the seats on the bulkhead (for phones, cameras etc) with a fused wire going along the inside of the tunnel up into the boot. You can get them from Maplin or a marine chandlers for less than £10. Or on Amazon for less than a fiver.

Thanks for the tip, Peter. I rang round a few insurers, both for build-up and normal car insurance. Quotes varied wildly (Adrian Flux were over £500!). I shall try Lloyd and White before D-Day! With both of you progressing ahead of me, I feel a warm glow of confidence that you'll troubleshoot it all nicely ;-)

Did you think about heat/sound insulation? I'm not sure whether our little engine is going to create a lot of heat, but I know others have put heat protection in the tunnel, and around the footwells. Did the chassis come with anything already in place? Cheers Ned
