Caterham Cars has provided us with the timetable for this weekend’s open day, and is hoping to see as many Club members as possible in attendance.  “Last year’s inaugural open day was such a great event” said David Ridley, “that we wanted to make it a regular occurrence.”
The day will kick off at 09:00 with cars being invited to park on display within the extensive reserved area surrounding the showroom.  At 09:30, Caterham CEO Graham Macdonald will make an opening speech.  Carl Geatrix, the designer behind the LEGO Caterham model will then provide an update on project progress at 10:00.  The keynote speaker, script writer Richard Porter (the man responsible for making Top Gear funny) will be on stage at 10:30, followed by a book signing from 11:00.
Hot food will be on offer, and there will be a Caterham parts sale too.  Throughout the day, test drives of the full current Seven range will be available.  To keep the children entertained, an Easter Egg hunt will be organised and other attractions will include the Let’s race simulator, Autoglym car valeting demonstrations and more.  Free Caterham health checks and a Concours competition offering fantastic prizes are also on offer, both of which require pre-registration.  See Caterham’s advert on the back of March’s edition of LowFlying for details. The day is scheduled to wrap up at 13:00.
Caterham’s Crawley Showroom is located at: Dialog Fleming Way, Crawley RH10 9NQ

Throckmorton Handling Day – (at Throckmorton Airfield, between Stratford upon Avon and Worcester)
    Date: Saturday 25th June 2016.
Building on the success of the last two years, the Worcestershire area has once again arranged for us to take over this great facility. This former RAF site has a runway layout which provides a gigantic area of tarmac that will become a playground for the day where participants will be able to test their cars’ performance and handling to the limits, in a safe environment.
The plan is to make best use of the expanse of tarmac in a variety of ways, including setting up:
    • Slalom course – explore the buzz of whistling around the course with just a few strategically placed cones for company
    • Drift area – it may look easy to “hold the back out” when you see the pros do it, but now it’s your turn to find out…
    • Standing 1/4km - Who needs launch control? Practice the perfect getaway as you blast down the track.
Catering will be available on the day so there will be no need to leave the venue other than to occasionally top up the Sevens’ fuel tanks.
    Event Pricing:
Entry to the event, including full access to the driving activities is priced at £25 for a car and one driver. Additional drivers can share a car for £10. Passengers and other spectators are welcome to attend for £5, and under 16s are free.
Please Note: To keep event costs as low as possible, we will be asking that all attendees be willing to also participate in at least 1hr of marshalling to help ensure that the event runs smoothly and that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the activities. It’s actually a fun part of the day, and a great opportunity to gain a different perspective on the driving events (and to pick up useful hints so you can do even better when your time to drive comes around again!)

The booking form is enclosed in March's LF, or can be downloaded from

    Cadwell Park Trackday 2016

    By Mcalvert, in Trackdays,

    Club Trackday Cadwell Park
Download the booking form for the Club’s trackday at Cadwell Park Cadwell TRACK DAY BOOKING FORM Mar 16 MC+JB22-2.pdf, or find it in the March edition of Lowflying.
Those who have driven the UK’s “Mini-Nürburgring" will already know what a fantastic circuit for Sevens it is.  If you haven’t yet – then there’s a real treat awaiting you!  It’s no surprise that Cadwell Park is a firm favorite with many drivers; driving it is a roller-coaster thrill throughout, from the fast and flowing Coppice/Charlies complex, to the unique “mountain” where the faster cars will momentarily get airbourne to the tight, twisty and demanding Hall Bends.
The trackday takes place on Friday 27th May 2016, and is exclusive to Club members and their guests.  The day will commence on a sessioned basis, but with the intention of moving to an “Open Pitlane” format if and when this is deemed appropriate.  Free coaching from qualified ARDS instructors will be available on a “first come first served” basis and the day is appropriate for drivers of all levels of experience.

If you have ever fancied having a go at speed events (sprints and hill climbs), on March 26th the club will be holding the biannual Intro to Sprinting day at Curborough near Lichfield, Staffordshire.
The event is designed for members who have never sprinted and without the pressure of a competitive event. As well as a programme of sessions during the day designed to give you all the knowledge needed to get started,  experienced sprinters will be on hand to answer any questions and give further encouragement.
There will be presentations giving you all the information needed to get on track. A scrutineer will be present to advise on any car modifications needed. There will be track walks led by championship winning drivers and there will be extended sessions where you will have the chance to drive the course and receive advice from experienced sprinters. Finally there will be passenger rides with existing competitors.
If at the end of the day you want to take it a stage further the club runs 2 events at Curborough every year which are open to club members without entering for the full championship.
The cost for the day is a very reasonable £59 which will include food. All you have to do is turn up with your 7, a helmet and FIA roll bar will be needed for track driving.
To register complete the form here and send to Sam Pearce with your payment.
