mav
Any options that will give similar performance to the CC / AP clutch as per the CC website. I've seen the helix options. Any others? Also who has the spline pattern / size and the plate dimensions (Diameter and thickness) This is for a 1.6K with a 6 speed box. mav
Well the question of options other than AP and helix would be nice, but there seems to be a relcutance to help me out?
SouthernBanana
Can I ask a stupid question? Does CC use the same clutch in all cars? The torque rating of this one seems to imply that it would take a battering on any R*00 cars?
rgrigsby
Mav have you spoken to Superclutch at all? they are Quartermaster dealers I believe and I'm sure if you given them the information above or even just have a chat they will be able to help out with some other options. mav
SB, yes thye use a std clutch across the whole range of K engined cars... (r500 spec item now)

SouthernBanana
Mav thanks for the reply. Do I assume that the clutch spec as posted above is for the R500 spec item? Do you have an idea of replacement cost for the component parts from your investigations (non CC parts prices please!). Mnay thanks, Fergus
mav
No idea if this is the current spec. Prices I have obtained for the driven plate only (CP2257-9) are as follows: AP Direct : £41.07 +vat Questmead : £35.94 +vat Apparently the part number listed above is the old spec, not the current spec from Caterham. Caterham current spec part number (they won't tell the AP part number) 72602R is £63.83 +vat.
mav
Looks like it is the bearing inthe flywheel that has failed. I'll take a couple of pics when the camera is charged up. New centre plate required too. Cover plate is just fine. Edited by - mav on 5 May 2006 11:49:06 Edited by - mav on 5 May 2006 12:02:
Jason Plato
flywheel doesnt have a bearing ? its just a big lump of iron

Paulo
I had a spigot bearing fail, this gave the same symptoms as a failed clutch.
Nifty
Spigot bearing Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
Jason Plato
spigot bearing = couple of £ from ford garage, but you will also need the sleeve to reduce to 22mm from Caterham no need to remove flywheel
mav
Why do I need a new sleeve? Any ideas on part number? Also percived wisdom - is it ok to just change the driven plate or do I HAVE to change the cover too?
Jason Plato
its a ford spigot bearing (and gearbox input shaft), but the rover crank has a slightly larger hole , So a 1mm sleeve is required simplist option is to order both from Caterham or end up driving all across town to the ford garage , then you still have to order the sleeve
