Martin S.
My 911 currently has mineral based oil that needs topping up on a regular basis, so until I get round to a full change to synthetic (13 Ltr capacity ) is it OK to top up with synthetic or semi-syn as I've got loads of it hanging around in the garage? Mick Day
If it's low on oil any oil is preferable to seriously low oil. Is your 911 air cooled? If so then many people advise using mineral oil as it's better at cooling the engine than synthetic; one just has to change it more frequently. Martin S.
Hmmmm interesting one Mick, I'd not considered the cooling. Yep It's a non turbo 3.2 air cooled. Opie oils recommended a fully synthetic but then maybe they'd not considered the cooling either
Sheds Moderator
I'd chuck in some semi-syn. As stated above, Mazola is better than no oil, especially in an air/oil cooled engine. Of course, you might just want to bring the oil change date forward a month or two, save 1-2 litres of oil.
NigelJ
Hi Martin I too have a 3.2 Carrera. It has run all its life on Mobil 1 as recommended by Porche GB. The early 911s used mineral oil as standard but I think that ended with the 3.o litre SCS Cheers NigelJ
