PaulJeffries
Following a track day at Anglesey on Saturday I have noticed that the fuel pump appears to be noisier. Symptom: Slight groan when priming and buzzing when in operation. I remember a slight buzzing before hand, but it has definately got louder, so far no performance loss has been noted. Could someone answer the following questions. Car is a 1999 1.6 Roadsport (k-series) 1) Has anyone experienced similar symptoms, and if so did their pump pack in? 2) How much is a new pump and what part number is it? Where stocks them? 3) How easy is it to replace, I understand they are submerged inside the tank? Thanks in advance for any replies. Paul

Support Team Shaun_E Posted April 19, 2006 Support Team Share Posted April 19, 2006 Can't help with 1) or 2) but the pump is reasonably straightforward to replace. You will need to drain the tank, undo the fuel pipe connection to the fuel filter (mounted on the back of the rear bulhead) and then undo the half dozen (or so) screws that hold the pump onto the tank. The pump then just lifts out - the snag is that there isn't that much room to the side of the tank but I think it is doable with the tank in place. Reftting is the reverse of removal as they say - I suggest getting a new rubber gasket and when you put the screws back in, do not overtighten them or you will distort the gasket. Frying Pan
Paul Are you listening to it now with the hood up? First time I drove mine with the hood, I couldn't believe how many horrible noises the pump makes - they get drowned out when topless. Guy See some pictures of the build here. 9000 miles completed! PaulJeffries
Guy, No its when the hood is down, you can hear the pump buzzing from 10 metres away. Shaun - thanks for the removal info. Paul
