Sootysevener
Had my red top on Optimate over the winter as the 7 has been off the road being carbonised. Out today - only about 8 miles and put it back on the Optimate when i got back. The Optimate switched to desulphate rather than charge for an hour or so but is now back on the conditioner programme. Voltmeter shows 14volts when running so I think the alternator is ok Any ideas coz I'm confused David 1989 1700XF SS clams with carbon webshots here
Rob Walker
There is no need to leave a sealed battery on any charger once its fully charged and not in use.
peterg
Don't worry, the Optimate will discharge the battery and then charge it up after you plug it in then will just maintain the charge by checking every so often and topping up if necessary FWIW I leave my racecars's sealed battery (Odyssey PC680) and motorbike (Yuasa something or other, also sealed) on Optimates all the time when not in use and not had any problems...well, I had to replace the bike battery but then again, it was 10 years old 😬
