DSL
How much do you think it would be likely to fetch 🤔 Complete R400 engine (3800 miles total, june 2004)installation with all the ancillaries, throttle bods, starter, engine mounts etc. All the dry sump gubbins. R400 exhaust & pipes. 6 speed gearbox & bell housing with propshaft. MBE management unit with the engine map already loaded on it. Just thinking out loud at the moment 😬 😬 Edited by - dsl on 5 Apr 2006 18:53:

MartinWoodham
A nearly similar engine went on ebay recently for a whisker over 3K, there was an identical engine plus ancillaries offered in circuit driver at 3.5K (Peter Ratcliffe's) not sure if it's sold yet. These were race engines so hard/ sustained high revs use, but had evidence of refreshes, plus they both had roller TBs and included the rad, zaust complete, ecu and loom, plus oil coolers and full DS from sump to bellhousing tank. Didn't include the 6 speed box though. Plus CC are buying them off upgradees to C400 spec for 2K IIRC.... So if the box is 1-1.5K worth that should be around 4-5K shouldn't it? Mike Molloy
Seeing as a new VHPD engine is 8 grand from PTP (without roller barrels or dry sump) I would have thought it was worth a *LOT* more than the paltry 2K Caterham are offering! But then of course they are buying thrashed-to-within-an-inch-of-their-lives ex-race engines... Just out of curiosity, how much does a bespoke Busa sprint car cost anyway? Over 30K? Stuart Faulds
CC didn't take *any* R400 engines as part-ex against the Duratec - they don't want the hassle and potential warrantee issues, hence the paltry £2k offer.
Nifty
Not what they told me Stuart .. though having said that the CC chap also told me he'd advised people that they could sell them for more privately Keep off the straight and narrow 😬

Sheds Moderator
Weren't there a pile of R4 engines, recently refreshed, advertised by CC about 6 or 9 months ago? 4k IIRC, quite a few round here were interested.
