domster
If someone wants a tin top with a Vauxhall-powered top end that Arnie can only dream of, I am selling my left hand drive Lotus Carlton for crossflow money! Okay, it doesn't go around corners like a Seven, but it seats four in Connolised comfort, and has air con, nice stereo etc. All those things you miss, in fact. I know because it replaced my seven as an everyday car. I also appreciated the fact that it did 0-140 in 21 seconds (0-100 is 10.8 according to Evo), which is pretty rapid. If you don't like hitting that wall of air pressure at a ton in your Caterham, get one of these. It only gets into its stride at 130. Ultimately, of course, this means that if you are following Arnie to Le Mans, you can whip his arse on the long straight tarmaccy bits. Worth the purchase price alone, probably wink.gif Reason for sale is that after 18 months ownership I have a second 'boring' car and I want to have some fun around corners again. Basic stats are: ltd edition no. 938/950, 1993K, left hand drive, 76k miles, full service history, tons of receipts. Price is only 11k, as although it is in good condition with all the right maintenance, it's a left hooker and a 'specialist' car. Full details at: http://www.geocities.com/domsteruk2000/lotus_carlton.html May possibly p/x a Superlight or tuned HPC, Esprit S4, or a 90's> 911 if you have one knocking about. moomin
Hi Domster, Not in my league, but might be worth advertising to the assembled Lotus masses: www.lotusbbs.com (best advertised in "General" for biggest audience, but thread will slip off the list in a couple of days and might get juvenile flaming - just ignore). Hope this helps, and good luck! DaveH
domster
Thanks a lot, Dave. Will try and brave the lotus bbs soon! Rgds Domster
domster
Sorry - I know you're not really into your tin tops, but just letting you know I have managed to load up a pic on geocities for the curious. It would also make a lovely second car - I'm sure you could fit a brian james to the back with a large tow hook!
felix.klauser
I seem to remember someone showing up at Goodwood with an turbo Esprit on a trailer as a track car. The tow car was a Lotus Carlton!
Red SLR
How much do you think the insurance for a 21 yr old would be on this? Just wondering as Tesco online dont have the Lotus Carlton on there , only the VX Carlton. The highest quote I have got tesco to do is 3400 for a 911... domster
Hi Simon, Ooh, I reckon you could beat that quote if you want to the right insurance company. Go to the wrong one and you'll probably double it. Trick is treating it as classic car, or limited mileage or whatever. To be honest, you will want to have a grand or two spare every year for maintenance (brake pads and disks are serious size and spec) so insurance will be just one of the outlays. When I was 24 I drove a Porsche 944 cabriolet for 1300 quid a year - my Caterhams were much cheaper to insure - never more than 685 GBP. Red SLR
I have a Vectra GSi which is 1600ukp a year, changing to a Honda Civic R though, thank god work are paying the insurance on that! My Caterham is only 400ukp though, limited mileage though. X777CAT
