Lumenition K400 ECU

Guys

Emerald seems to be the ECU of choice, however, my SL has a Lumenition K400 ECU.

Is there anyone out there who has one? and how does the software compare with the likes of Emeralds?

I know nothing about this subject but if I guess my question is, is if I purchased the leads and software would someone familiar with Emeralds be able to set up my car to get it through the MOT fairly easily.

cheers

Dave

Hi Dave

My car has the Lumenition ECU, which was originally fitted along with Lumenition badged Throttle Bodies and hot Cams by Minister Racing Engines. (DCOE type on an inlet manifold)

I don't have the software, leads, or an antiquated enough laptop to run the software. Fortunately the mapping is good - the engine pulling smoothly from low revs and lots of power kicking in from 5000rpm - very happy on the road in traffic, or being thrashed around a track.

Minister tell me they can modify the map if needs be, so I presume they have the leads and software. Mine is also password protected, and I don't have the password - again guess Minister keep a record. I did think about asking them to lower the rev limiter (8000rpm on a standard 1600 bottom end which seems a little high - it may have forged pistons - but I'm not certain - ) and the shift light - set at 7600rpm.

The ECU is clealy a GEMS unit, rebadged as Lumenition (and the throttle bodies are Jenvey).

I did e-mail Lumenition to try and get a software copy, but received no response.

I don't need an emissions test for MOT, since my car is pre 98 - I very much doubt it would pass if I did. It needs a tank full of fuel every 140 miles!

Might be worth talking to Minister if you need a re-map - though a long haul from you.

Thanks for replying Jonathon.

I have been speaking with Lumenition and have ordered (or trying to order) the software, lead and security "dongle", just so I can pick and choose who I go with and also so the next buyer has the stuff to remap for MOTs. I currently have the car sitting up at a local engine guru, (specialises is rally prep and lotus etc) and he is borrowing leads and gubbin to re-map the car from a local elise owner. At the moment the emmssions readings are 6.2% on CO and the max limit is 0.3% on fast idle. Slightly over!

My has always felt good and strong but very strong unburnt fuel smell from exhaust led me to believe its overfueling (I too can dump a tank of Opti in about 150miles of road use)

My cars engine upgrade is Arrowstar (whatever happened to them?) and is Caterham throttlebodies, Lumenition ECU, gas flowed head, uprated cams, vernier, not sure on the GEMS thing. Mine is just a black box with K400A and a serial number on it *confused* Not very techy but hey ho.

Guess my best option is to be patient and hope that it gets through the test so I can get back out and about.

Cheers

Dave
