DeDion rear caliper piston retraction.

I've seen a set of instructions on how to replace the rear Pads. It suggests using a piston wind back tool that engages in the piston and rotates it as the screw pushes the piston back.

What's the reason for rotating the piston ?

Why can't I just push it back with a G cramp ?

do a search for this one. Then buy the tool, 20 quid from halfrauds.

It can be done with a pair of snipe nose pliers to turn and push, but its more grief than its worth. The tool makes it much easier. Dont attempt without turning, it just wont work!

The handbrake has an adjuster which takes compensates for pad wear. The adjuster mechanism is threaded and within the piston hence the need to wind back.
