Rob Walker
I noticed this new product for sale yesterday £32 for 5 L anyone know if its a true synthetic, the viscosity is good and its marketed as a track day oil. I wonder if its the same as the Caterham oil? Rob Edited by - Rob walker on 14 Mar 2006 09:08:
paul jacobs
Well spotted Rob. I wonder if it would be any good emailing Halfords head office?
mav
Called my local Halfords and they have confirmed this is made by Comma.
mav
Comma have also lauched their own branded 5w50 to the following Spec: ACEA A3 B3 API SL CF, SAE 5W40, 10W40 and 15W40's in Motorsport applications. I'm just getting a price form my local motorfactor...
Mick Day
Yes saw it as well; had a good look at the labelling & there's no API/SAE rating. Same as Caterham's 5W50 in that respect. If it's made by Comma then it's certain to be the same as Caterham's brand.
mav
I can buy this at less than £20 per 5l can...
Rob Walker
Looks like it will be suitable for most applications and reasonably priced especially when there is a 2 for1 offer on.
mav
If there is sufficient interest I could arrange a bulk purchase.
mav
My price from the motorfactor comes out at £15.75 inc VAT per 5L carton. Delivery would be by Gonads / good will and or collect from Oulton trackday.

Roger Ford
Mav - can you clarify what grades you can get? Is it 5W50 only, or any of the grades in your previous post?
ianrm
mav I'd go for 5L as my car needs an oil change in the near future - but will it be a problem getting to Northern Ireland? Ian
mav
The 5w50 is the one I can get at £15.75. The syner - g 5w40 is about £85 for 20 litres. The spec listed in the above post is directly from the comma site here. I can get most of the products here but would like to concentrate on just one product. Peter Carmichael
If it's made by Comma then it's certain to be the same as Caterham's brand. I think you will find that Caterham's oil was specifically developed by their chosen oil partner as an optimum blend for Caterhams. You can get in an awful lot of bother in these parts if you suggest it was some old chip fat that they had lying underneath one of their benches onto which they just slapped a Caterham label. mikec23
so to confirm, halfords, caterham and comma syner-g motorsport 5w-50 oils are all exactly the same, just under a different badge name? ive got comma in mine at the moment and need a top up, would be easier for me to pop to halfords if this was the case... mav
Mike, They are all the same, except Comma Syner-G is a 5w40. The Comma Motorsport is the 5w-50 as per Caterham / Halfords etc...
