Dumb Weber question

I hope the following will help

The first numbers (40) indicate the size of the throttle plate

The letters indicate the general type of carb DC means doppio corpo or double throat

O means orizzontale (Horizontal)

E means Die-cast

Numbers following the type indicate variations of the basic type

The 40DCOE2 was used on Sprites,Midgets, Cortina,BMW2002 etc.

The 40DCOE18 was used on Midgets, Sprites,TR3,GT6,TR7

Are you getting bored yet?

In their origianal form they would have been jetted different.

Brian

oops! I picked up my class of scotch which I was using to hold down the page on my Weber tables and the page flicked over!

The 40DCOE2 was originally fitted to the Alpha Romeo

The 40DCOE18 was origanally fitted to Lotus cars

The only technical problem that you may have is if you need to get a repair kit.

The part number for the DCOE2 is 92.1047.05

For the DCOE18 it is 92.1046.05

The gasket set uses the same part number - 92.0015.05

The information earlier was from the conversion tables blush.gif

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info. Apparently the DCOE2 was used oon 1500cc pre crossflow Lotus Sevens and the DCOE18 were used on the twin cams. Other than that i assume the only differences was the jetting

It's all very confusing.....

The only difference I can see apart from original jetting is in the float valve size, which is presumably why the repair kit is different and the gasket kit the same, the 2 uses a 2.0 float valve since its original application was for a larger capacity engine, the 18 uses a 1.75, it's entirely possible that these have been changed at some time during the carbs history.

I was told by a very knowledgeable performance tuner that I know that the "end numbers" refer to the arrangement of the idle progression discharge holes situated near the edge of the throttle plate. As some engines require different arrays of these. Weber would ,for OEM users calibrate carbs to suit. This explains why when some people have gathered up a "pair" of carbs they have ended up with an undriveable untuneable pig due to mismatched progression off idle.
