Big Brother
Anyone got a spare gearstick for a type 9 laying around I could try/borrow/have/buy? I currently have a Quaife "quick shift" stick. This works fine but the change is pretty stiff. I'd like to try a standard gear stick on my gearbox to see what its like. With the length of the gearstick, I'm not convinced the quick shift is really necessary. Anyone got anything tucked away in the garage? Steve SE7EN-UP! RiF
Hi Steve, Have a CC one. Gather it is still a short shift? After visiting BGH I have changed to a Ford one with a cut down stick as the gear change is so much smoother. If you want to try it let me know. Big Brother
Hi Richard, Thanks for the offer. I thought the CC ones were just a cut down Ford one. That being the case I guess my Quaife one is pretty similar to the CC one. Looks like I will be calling round the breakers this weekend looking for a Ford item. Oh, and you (will) have mail. Peter Carmichael
The Quaife one can be dismantled and reinstalled the other way up (there are two circlip grooves cut to allow this) giving two possible ratios. entirely unrelated fact mode> I think I tried both and ended up with the high ratio option. philwaters
Steve, let me know if you wantto borrow mine sometime - it's easy to remove. I'm planning on hitting the road in March subject to getting a starter motor back by then ☹️ Phil Waters
Big Brother
Phil, I may take you up on the offer I just want to see what its like with a "standard" lever as the quaife change is very switch like. It gives a good gear change but need quite bit of force to move. Peter, I will take a look at moving the circlip and see what its like. Steve SE7EN-UP! philwaters
How do you want to do this then - shall I bring it to the meet next week and you can fit it in the car park and blat, or shall I bring it to work and we'll meet up and you can try it for a bit longer. Big Brother
Next meet sounds good - if it ever stops raining!!! I just want to see if it gives the "knife through butter" effect, instead of the switch like shift I currently have. You may want to remind me the day before as I will need to bring my tools/allen keys. Steve SE7EN-UP!
