frankyknuckles
what slick tyre sizes would be equivalent to 185/60/13 and 205/60/13 ? is there a preference of manufacturer for the 7 ? www.R300.net
rgrigsby
185/60-13 is around about a 6/21 slick and the 205/60-13 is around and 9/21 slick I believe, I tended to pick up 2nd hand slicks so I've run everything from 6/20 through to 8 or 9/22 on the rear at various points in time. All the slicks I've used were Avon's but that's because they were mainly 2nd hand R400 ones. If you're interested I've got a a few slicks in the garage with a 2-4mm of tread left on them that you are welcome to have to get started on, they are a few years old but once warmed up should be Ok. SouthernBanana
205/60/13 is about (205/25.4) wide = 8 inches, the 60 profile tyre equates to around (205*0.6/25.4)+13= approx 18. the closest tyre to this width and profile is 8/22/13. lovely. Area Representative Richard Price Posted February 8, 2006 Area Representative Share Posted February 8, 2006 SouthernBanana, Race tyres tend to be sized by tread width and overall diameter, rather than section and aspect ratio. 8" slicks are significantly wider that 205/60 road tyres. oldbutnotslow
Check this out here I run 7" all round and use 7.21x13's slicks Grant Taylor OBNS Motorsport 😬 183 BHP of Black and 'Stone Chip' excitement. 😬 here
DSL
8in slick is equal to a 245mm tyre IIRC, & will fit on to a 8in rear wheel as I am sure its going to be the same size as a Avon ACB10 8*22in rear we use for sprinting.

frankyknuckles
Rob - YHM What slick sizes did the R400 race cars use? www.R300.net
Rob Walker
IIRC 7"x 21 front and 8.2" x 22 rear made by AVON. I run these on trackdays on 6.5" F 8.5" R wheels. Very hard to find now SH as they are no longer the control tyre for the R400 series.
frankyknuckles
Where would be the cheapest place to buy these new? Presume the sizes would be OK on 6"front and 8"rears? www.R300.net Edited by - frankyknuckles on 14 Feb 2006 09:08:

rgrigsby
As has been mentioned already I think they ran 8.2" rear and a 7" front, in SEMSEC we tended to run a 7" front and a 9" rear slick on a variety of wheels but mainly 6.5" fronts and 8.5" rears. Petrolhead
IIRC 7"x 21 front and 8.2" x 22 rear made by AVON According to Avon (Brian Davies) the R400 control slicks were Front: 7/20x13 Number - 10998 Rear: 8.2/22x13 Number - 10999 They were an A37 compound The advantage of using the above size is they are a direct replacement for the 175/55 and 205/55 x 13 CR500 so you would not neet to alter your suspension heights. Problem is getting hold of second hand ones. New ones are about £450 + VAT Out of interest I have just bought some Micheline Radial slicks Fronts 16/53 x 13 Rears 20/54 x 13 A set of 4 costs £100 and I got them from ProTyre. One of the lads in the club has used them and say they are very good so I thought I would giove them a go. Will probable have to raise the rear a little to get the rake back to approx 15mm. Have also bought some wets in the above size as well NE7Club Web Site R5 no 65 😬 Edited by - Petrolhead on 18 Feb 2006 18:33:

F355GTS
Petrolhead, take a look at Ebay when you are in the market for more Michelin Slicks, I picked up some sets for £40 Mark
frankyknuckles
Petrolhead, am I missing sometheing here? I was quoted £100ish per slick when I called Protyre, did you buy them 2nd hand? (I've seen the 2nd had tyres on eBay, they look good value) www.R300.net
Casbar
Franky, I phoned Protyre, and was offered the same price as Petrolhead Although I did manage to work out that the price given was for part worn slicks, rather than new
Petrolhead
Sorry but I assumed you would relise that at £100 you aint gona get new yes they are part worn but mine have loads of tread. Quite often part worn are tyrs that may have just been used for qualifying I looked on ebay today but there did not seem to be many 13". I would rather buy from Protyre as at least you know they are reasonably new and not some old tyres that have been lying in a shet for 5 years NE7Club Web Site R5 no 65 😬 Edited by - Petrolhead on 28 Mar 2006 20:22:
