Bozz
Fitted my new Apollo yesterday and engine now back in. A couple of questions for BC. 1. I don't know how I'll ever be able to change the alternator belt as I'm sure I'll never be able to move the alternator sufficiently to fit a new belt as the hoses are so tight behind. 2. Although I've added a rubber protection strip to the top edge of the alternator bracket the hoses still seem to rest firmly on it. Should I have ground away a bit of the top edge of the alternator bracket to accomodate? Bozz It's not MANGO it's TANGO and it's grounded
davef
Bozz, When I changed the alternator belt on mine I had to put the car in gear and rock it to ease the belt over the pulley. ave

Bozz
Thanks Mark. What I can't see from Angus's site is whether the issues raised by me above are valid. Bozz It's not MANGO it's TANGO and it's grounded
Englishmaninwales
Bozz I ground away a slot in the top of the bracket to clear the pipes. I don't think it is a good idea to leave the pipes resting on the bracket. Malcolm
Myles
I can check my pipes later this morning - I don't believe anything special was done to the bracket though. Either my pipes have been happily rubbing on the bracket, or they cleared it OK. The pipes are very inflexible, but you should be able to get a small amount of wiggle-room by rotating the tank slightly in its mount. Project Scope-Creep is live... Bricol
I didn't touch the alternator bracket, but took a chunk of the engine block instead - far enough to break into a manufacturing datum hole in the sump mtg flange which gave me a moment! Bozz
Yes, I ground away part of the block also as advised by Oily. Bozz It's not MANGO it's TANGO and it's grounded
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 31, 2006 Leadership Team Share Posted January 31, 2006 The original oil cooler fitment on my ex 1.4K racer had a small metal "half sleeve" approx 1" long that fitted to the pipe to protect it - there appeasr to be no such item in the Apollo kit - maybe a cost-cutting measure. I transferred it across and it fits neatly around teh pipe, held in place by a couple of strips of insulating take. Stu.
David Lynch
Could be worse. on mine the hoses go between the pulleys/Alternator Belt so can't change the belt without draining the oil Messy 1.4K SS 😬 The Geek will inherit the earth

mav
DAvid, you just undo the top breather, release the tank form the fixing point (a jubilee clip usually) and just slide the belt off, and a new one on...
