Brucey
I used to work for a company owned by Smiths Industries about 25 years ago. I also owned a Mk 1 Lotus Cortina and an Elan S4 at various times. My friend and I used to work on other peoples cars in our early 20's to feed our 'Lotus habit'. Through the Staff Shop, I bought a combined Smiths Oil/capilary Temp Gauge (which is still in its original box. I also have a used Smiths capilary temp guage and a used Smiths Tachometer. The box in my attic also contains a Lotus Elan 2+2 and a Twin Cam Escort Mk1 Workshop Manual. Originally I kept them for when I I got my Lotus 7, but my 93 1400 ss seems to have evolved faster than my spares stock! As I've cared for these items for over 30 years, I would like them to go to a good home where they will be used (maybe on a restoration) and not just traded for profit by a dealer on e bay. Does anyone know what sort of value these items have? May even PX for bits to fit my Caterham. I'm looking for a nice steering wheel, a nice high level brake light and a nice (competition?) exhaust (current ones an internal type). Just enquiring at this stage. I know if I keep the bits too much longer, I'll start looking for an old Lotus 7 to restore and I can't afford the devorce! Bruce.
Big Brother
Brucey, I may be interested in the dual oil/water gauge. My (1979) Caterham has one of these fitted and the capillary pipe has broken off at the sender end. I've got a extra "TIM" temperature gauge fitted at the moment, (that doesn't match the other Smiths gauges) Let me know what you are after and maybe we can sort something out. Edited to ask - Does your gauge have a chrome "V" profile bezel? Steve SE7EN-UP!
