Ben Long
I'll shortly be moving into my very first house (hoooraaaayyyyy), and top priority is to paint the garage floor so that I can move the Caterham in. Does anybody have a sufficient amount 'left over' or spare - sufficient to cover a standard single garage sized floor ? Alternatively, can anybody suggest a good source to buy some. As you can imagine, the pennies have been swallowed up buying the house, so I wanted to avoid spending too much. Drop me a line or blatmail me Cheers, Ben 07769 68 58
Tom_C
If you have to buy, B&Q do International Garage Floor paint in a wide range of colours. Seems to work well and about £20 I think. Cheers Tom FH54WLX - only the car supports ManU, honest!
RichardO
Screwfix sell it (www.screwfix.com). Tis much cheaper than B&Q as long as you spend at least £45 (cos that gets you free postage). And if you are moving house there's bound to be a load of other stuff of interest in the screwfix catalogue! R
LazerBrain
I think I used about 2 tins to cover my single garage. It all depends on what the floor is like - mine was some kind of ridged concrete so there was a much greater surface area than I expected. cheers, Darren. JohnM
Hi Ben, I see that you are in Newbury - so try Brewers on Hambridge Lane (in the Industrial area opposite Downs Carpets). I bought 2 cans of International from them and they were cheapre than B&Q. It took two coats to cover my floor - it's certainly worth thinning the first with White Spirit - goes on easier, seals the floor and makes a great base for a shiny 2nd coat. Have fun ❗ - John
Ben Long
Thanks for the responses chaps. JohnM - I may well try Brewers then. I want to ensure the floor is well covered, and have been told that adding thinners to the first coat is advised.
F355GTS
Ben I think I've got 2.5 ltrs of Grey International Floor Paint, welcome to if you want it, I can send it via Susan Mark
Sheds Moderator
You will need at least 5L and I recommend you thin it. First coat benefits from up to 50% thinners, no I am not taking the mick, lash it on with a yardbrush or roller on a stick then leave it to dry. If you don't seal the surface and attempt to paint it in 1 coat you will use gallons. If times are really hard the scrounge Mark's half tin, thin it right down and paint. That will kill the dust and you can do a proper job in a year or so when it starts to look shabby.
Frying Pan
I've used the Wickes garage floor paint and it's fine. Before you apply anything, make sure you get the floor as clean and dust free as possible - I hired a wet and dry vacuum and scrubbed / hosed the floor down, let it dry, then hoovered it. I then used some sort of PVA sealer IIRC before applying a couple of coats of paint. I've had to re-apply a coat once, but this is a very quick job. Looks so much better See some pictures of the build here. 8000 miles completed!
F355GTS
Boss is spot on, I didn't thin the 1st coat and it spent all it's life lifting, my Bro did his properly, no problem Mark
Andy Wiltshire
Ben, If you want the best you have to use two pack epoxy floor paint. I used it in my workshop where I am constantly welding, grinding etc and having used Screwfix floor paint and others there is no question about which one to use. In respect of price it actually works out about the same. Plus there is a good range of colours! Try either Paintmaster - 01663 733633 or Industrial Protective Paints - 01782 303831, Regards, Andy Wiltshire, Axminster Specialist Panels. Ben Long
Thanks chaps Mark - many thanks for the offer. If nothing else, I will be able to use what you have left as a base coat. Please can you pass it to Susan when you next see her. Alternatively, I can exchange it with you for a pint at our next area meeting, as this will be the first time we meet at our new location. Many thanks mate.
