Wheel studs - how long?

Recommended Posts

I swopped from 15" Prisoner wheels to 13" Minilites last summer and although the new wheels engage OK on the existing wheel studs they do not fully bolt on to cover all of the threads.

Although I check the wheel nuts regularly and have driven a couple of track days and done quite a few road miles I'd like a little more peace of mind that the wheels are going to stay on!

Has anybody else had a similar problem and if so what was the solution? Longer wheel studs? Where from? How easy to fit?

Thanks

Nick

I fitted longer studs and open nuts.

It's hubs off and split disks and hubs, on a Caterham I'm afraid.

Some countries require open nuts for the scrutineers to check stud depth....

You can always lopp the top off the crappy closed nuts or get those nice ali ones...

I call the closed ones supplied with the car crappy as the thread engineering quality is apalling.. too much slop for my liking.

I bought the longer studs and 22mm race nuts from Autocross in Binfield (Bracknell). These had a much better tollerance and thread all the way on the nut ~23mm.

Wheel depths do vary. Minator are thinner than some other wheels I have....

Make sure all wheels have steel inserts.
