CharlieD
Being an ex-enjunear I know that aluminium age hardens. Problem: I have a set of dunlop alloy wheels circa 1970, thus they will have had 35years of age hardening and they need annealing/normalising to make them soft and ductile again. I don't want to use the wheels in this brittle state as I fear they may crack or fracture etc.. I have contacted quite a few wheel re-conditioners but none knew anything about annealing/normalising and all they want to do is re face and paint ☹️. Whilst I will want them re faced etc I don't want to throw good money after bad. Does anyone have any ideas or experienced the same?

JampJ
Age hardening aluminium actually strengthens it. Plenty of info on the net. Aluminium wheels will be Ok, its the early magnesium alloys that can be brittle.
