Mark Ferguson
Stripping my car down for winter tidy up & noticed the near side back end really oiled/greased up on brakes, tube etc. I then noticed that my driveshaft rubber has perished & split open so need to replace as not much grease in there. Taken the driveshaft out but how do you replace the rubber ???, brake side of shaft, not diff side ???
CageyH
Do a search in tech talk for CV joint. Full instructions can be easily found.
Bozz
I've used a Duraboot successfully for this which means that you don't have to disassemble the universal joint. here Bozz It's not MANGO it's TANGO and it's grounded Edited by - Bozz on 18 Jan 2006 13:30:13 Edited by - Bozz on 18 Jan 2006 13:31:
Mike Bees
I used those too - 4laps of Goodwood was enough to split them open... Mike
Peter Carmichael
The CV joints are Ford spec and a Ford specialised tool does the best job of fitting the new boots and swaging the new metal cover to hold them in place. Redline Components in Caterham have all the kit to do this but you may do better locally.
Miura
I did this a few months ago: ordered the Ford parts from Redline components (you need 2 kits per shaft : roughly £35 per shaft) Redline said that I could send the driveshaft, they would fit the boots and return to me, AFAIR they quoted 1h labour. In the end a workmate did the work for me , he used to be a professional mechanic and it took him one hour and commented it was a messy job (do a search for "CV joint" it'll give you an idea what's involved). good luck
