Dickie Normuss
I can hear the groan already "Oh god, another oil thread" ❗ Having spent hours yesterday searching Techtalk for oil info I found reference to Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Motorsport. Are the the same thing or different, and if they are different what is the difference 🤔 Seek forgiveness, not permission. Rules are for the interpretation of wise men and the obedience of fools. Support Team Shaun_E Posted January 9, 2006 Support Team Share Posted January 9, 2006 Mobil 1 is normally 0W40 and Mobil 1 Motorsport is 15W50. Which one you should use depends on your engine and the usage you put it to. If you use the car on road in the winter then you'll probably need 0W40. If all you ever do is racing or trackdays then I guess the 15W50 will be more suitable. I am using the 0W40 in my 227bhp K-series. Normans_Ghost
Please don't start this again. Ric, one thick and the others thin. For normal road use the thins good, for racing the thicks better. 😬 Norman Verona, 1989 BDR 220bhp, Reg: B16BDR, Mem No 2166, the full story here You and your seven to The French Blatting Company Limited
old captain slow
Caterham do a 0-50 oil that seems to be all things to everyone (note PC re-wording of the phrase all things to all men).
Dickie Normuss
Norm, I did spend hours searching the archive yesterday and just got confused, I thought they did a 5w-40, must have had my wires crossed so will get 0-40 Seek forgiveness, not permission. Alex Wong1697456877
Having developed a headache following all the oil stuff on BC, I've decided to stick to the Mobil 1 Msport for my car and just make sure the oil is up to temp before I use the throttle. I've lost track of what is fact, what is theoretical, what is marketing gone mad. What I do know is that nobody has ever said to me with any degree of certainty - "I used the wrong viscosity of oil and my engine failed".

Bilbo
Like many things Mobile 1 is a lot cheaper over the channel. Also in 5 litre cans for about £23 are they still 4 litres here 🤔 'Can you hear me running' ......... oilman
If it's a K Series then I would use a 5w-40. A decent one if you race or have modded it. And yes Mobil1 is 0w-40 and Mobil1 Motorsport is 15w-50.
