DSL
Who runs a quick rack on the road & track 🤔 How does it compare for road use, is it just too twitchy
rgrigsby
I've been running one for years and it's fine, what tyres are you running? on ACB10's it takes a little bit of getting used to but just about anything else is fine. brownie
I run one and it is fine on the road. Avon CR500 or ACB10's.
Myles
I drove V7's car for an hour (on my own) before he sold it. I thought it twitchy and commented on it - but it was not of the order that you'd not get used to IYSWIM. Oh, and I was making the most of the 244bhp (from a 1.9k) and 178ish lbft at the time... My rebuilt car will include a quick-rack, and I am slightly uneasy about it- but as I said, I reckon it's something that you can get used to. ...just be a bit careful blowing your nose on the m-ways... Mick Day
A 22% on the road is spot on. Just think the car to the right & it just goes, same to the left; all it takes is slight wrist movement. It suits my lazy style of driving. Who wants to yank on a few armfulls of lock just to pass the car in front?
Jason Plato
22% is spot on you think the turn rather than grapple you can also catch slides with the flick of the wrists (on track) - its a no brainer in my opinion. You can ballance the twitchiness with the castor to maintain stability DSL - you drove mine at York with the 22% C7 TOP Powered by Hellier Performance 😬 South Wales AO
DSL
Looks like a ringing endorsment for the quick rack then *thumbup* I shall get one on order next week, thanks for your thoughts guys *thumbup* Dave, I take it the ability to catch slides quickly becomes some what more important after you've been Hellier(d) 😬 😬 😬 😬 Edited by - DSL on 8 Jan 2006 10:36:08 Edited by - DSL on 8 Jan 2006 10:36:
DSL
I take it you buy these direct from Caterham 🤔 Any ideas how much 🤔 I have read about packing the rack up to reduce bump steer, how does that work & how do you get that sort of thing right 🤔

Paul Deslandes
DSL. I've got a write-up of the procedure to measure and adjust bump steer. If you're interested I can email it to you. It includes some hints on how to make your own simple gauges as well. Paul

Sheds Moderator
Mine's fine at 22% and the advantages are that it steers so fast. Dunno whether I would choose it for pure road use, it does make the thing feel like a real racer. It depends on your style of driving - touring vs blatting vs TDs. old captain slow
Got a 22% and been all over the place with it including long tours in Europe. It is fine on the road with normal road tyres and my current AO48s. C7 CDW

Normans_Ghost
Plunge away and you'll wish you'd done it years ago. The only "problem" I've noticed is that, with a cast iron block and 15" wheels with 205 section tyres the steerings a tad heavey at parking speed. Not really a problem when you get it on the twisty bits at speeds you wouldn't do with a "low" geared rack. Myles
Ooh, well, I bought a s/h widetrack rack just before chrimbo and it's green. It was sold as a 22% rack - and having no reason to doubt it, I've not tried to measure it. Project Scope-Creep is live...
