finmac
Looking for some guidance re what oil grade. VX is in a high state of tune (QED 450 kit). Previous owner ran it on 15w 50 motul fully synthetic, but he did sprints with it. I am using it on the road, so a lot more cold starts than previously, so wondered if I should drop down to 0w 40 say? Or even what about the Halfrauds special on the go just now 5w 40? Advice please!!!

finmac
Well thats a broad spectrum of replies! I reckon I will go with the Halfrauds 5w 40 (not least cause its half price!), that way will get better cold start protection than the 15W thats in it presently. Phil
"0" will give better start up protection and the 40 will give less friction freeing up BHP when motoring and a very good film strength. I suggest buying from "OIL MAN" as advertised in LF or buy Mobil 1 0w/40. Mobil 0w/40 lots of money but worth every penny, the 5w/40 suggested is normaly a 5ltr pack and a good compromise. oilman
I would suggest grade wise a 5w-40 would be fine. Cheers Simon http://www.opieoils.co.uk sales@opieoils.co.uk
Archie Procter
I use Comma 5-40, but I'm not racing it either (yet). It's fine for me. Completely o/t, but where are you planning to race the 2.0 Andy?
andy_h
Andrew, I was planning to 'play' on track days for year or so (we've got a baby now so my play time has shrunk somewhat) and then probably the 750 Motor Club. finmac
Cheers Oilman, bought 15 litres of the Halfrauds Comma stuff (buy 1 get 1 free offer)for £45, that strikes me as a bargain! HPC with QED
