Red Line Components Posted December 29, 2001 Share Posted December 29, 2001 Not wishing to worry anyone unduly, but if it saves a hefty bill, and time with the beloved 7 off the road..read on. My '99 1.8 K with about 15k on the clock starts to make a rattley noise top end of the engine with poor idle and reduced performance to match. Within 100 miles I am getting it checked out at the local 7 Workshop and a finger tight nut (just) holding one of the cam pulleys on is discovered. The locating pin has also managed to eat its way out of position, giving me my very own version of variable valve timing. A near miss, could have been expensive. Soooo, might be worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later esp if there are strange noises. Seasons greeting to all Minty Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BUT, were you a long way from home when you first heard it or did you just get a bit lazy about checking out a new noise? Bet you don't wait that long when/if you ever hear another!!!
