Recommended Posts

Diagnostics required please:

select gear and start to let clutch bite. as gear engages feel Klunk! once only and doesnt repeat until next gear change. If I ride the clutch slightly to get a really smooth (but slower) change - no Klunk!

1600x/f 19k miles 4 spd box. 1995. Caterham built.

Any pointers for the mechanically challenged but willing to have a go.

Ummm. First check would be to feel the prop shaft & see if the U/J has gone? This would give the symptoms you describe although I would have thought you could have felt some vibration with this scenario.

Difficult without the car to 'feel' !

I suspect there will be a few along tomorrow who could also point you in the right direction.

Good Luck.

Mine does that clunk thing, I've been told its 'play in the differential'???? (whatever that means), "oh" says me, "is it bad", "oh no, they all do that" says the man at the caterham service agent. All the ones I have driven (2 of them) have done it and nothing has fallen off yet.
