ESTER synthetic based oil

In a previous thread an oil expert was telling us that there is a big difference between cheap synthetic oils and those that are ester based.

I noticed in the DT catalogue that the MOTUL 300 oils are belonging to this category. Expensive though. Since it seems to me that they are made in France ( I used them in the 70's in my Gordini), I plan to check the retail price here.

Hi Pierre,

It is made in France, the oil is 300 V le mans is 15W50 or 15W60 and is recommanded for competition use or hard use.

In one word : very good oil, not cheap : 130.00 FF for 2 litres

The 300 V exists in chrono, which is a thinner oil (not for us)

There is also a Gear 300 Oil for box.

All are pure synthetic products

From my side, I will test the Schell Spirax G 80 for the box as recommended here.

If it is not good enough, I will test redline Shockproof

Thanks Eric. So it is a bit more expensive 260 FF Vs 200 FF than Mobil 1 but probably better since Mobil 1 does not claim they are ester based. The Chrono one might be good since it is a 5W40, so would be OK for my stock 1.6K engine. By the way , where do you buy it? It does not seem to be available in Hypermarkets . Eldorauto sell it at their motorbike dept.

Cheers,

Pierre
