If you use the 1.8 rods with a 1.6 crank you'll get a very poor compression ratio! If you use 1.6 rods with a 1.8 crank than you'll bash the pistons into the head... oilyhands Posted November 16, 2005 Share Posted November 16, 2005 Dave, The short stroke 1800 made 245BHP, but it suffered a bearing failure on track. When stripped all of the rod bearings showed signs of heavy duress, the rest of the engine including the mains was pristine. The crankpins are the same size as a 1600 and the only bearing material available is the stock OE bearing which proved to be not up to the job.
