Reg Number on 7 grill

I used to have a Europa with the same idea, it was one of Colin Chapmans clever ideas to save weight and just stay within the regs, but I'm not entirley sure they were even legal then, and definitely wouldn't be today.

I agree - I knocked my nosecone in a race (see here) and it increased the running temperature by about 20 degrees due to reduced airflow. Fortunately it wasn't a hot day and I was able to get to the end but I was keeping a very close eye on it!

There are things you can do to improve the cooling, such as fitting a triple-core radiator, but it seems a bit extreme. Alternatively use a different nose cone or grille without letters on track days.

The Elan has the digits on the grille and reflective number plate on the rear.

When reflective number plates became a requirement som manufacturers were given dispensation as a number plate wouldn't fit on the front.

Not a lot of people know that.
