Wight Skipper
Is it possible to get the reg letters that stick onto the grill like the Prisoner car?
Mick Day
Yes, but at the expense of reduced cooling. Edited by - Mick Day on 28 Oct 2005 18:20:
paul jacobs
I used to have a Europa with the same idea, it was one of Colin Chapmans clever ideas to save weight and just stay within the regs, but I'm not entirley sure they were even legal then, and definitely wouldn't be today. Paul J. Hard work never killed anyone ........ but why take the chance!
Wight Skipper
Mick, wouldn't the air find it's way in round the letters? Paul, my front plate is illegal at the moment anyway! 😬 Thanks anyway guys!
EFA
Nogers probably still got this on his car. Took me ages.
Mick Day
Mick, wouldn't the air find it's way in round the letters? It's frontal area that determines how much air gets in. Bung a few letters in the way then on a hot day it all gets very marginal.
Archie Procter
I agree - I knocked my nosecone in a race (see here) and it increased the running temperature by about 20 degrees due to reduced airflow. Fortunately it wasn't a hot day and I was able to get to the end but I was keeping a very close eye on it! There are things you can do to improve the cooling, such as fitting a triple-core radiator, but it seems a bit extreme. Alternatively use a different nose cone or grille without letters on track days. Andrew
Normans_Ghost
The Elan has the digits on the grille and reflective number plate on the rear. When reflective number plates became a requirement som manufacturers were given dispensation as a number plate wouldn't fit on the front. Not a lot of people know that.
