Fitting fasteners

How do you fit button and socket fasteners together? I've used a pop-rivet gun for the bases in the past but not need to replace the fasteners on the boot cover - what tool do I use?

I have found many reasonably strong blows of the hammer give a better flaring of the popper shaft than one big hit. You are also less likely to damage the plastic head of the black poppers. These were quite flimsy when I first used them.

They seem to be much more study for all the recent orders I have made.

They do wear. It's a metal to metal contact and the little sprung steel ring in the popper will get tired and the base worn down.

I'd replace them first step.

You can get special (only come off one way) poppers. These are £9 for a set *eek* - that means 1 base, 1 popper female and 1 black top. NOT £9 for a load of them. I doubt you could use these on a hood as you might not be able to remove the hood again depending on the angle of pulling to release.
