6 speed box - speedo angle drive

Collective wisdom of blatchat sought....

Mine appears to have failed. If I disconnect the speedo cable from the angle drive and twiddle to cable the speedo reads out so I assume the angle drive thingy on the gearbox is knackered.

Is this a known fault and if so what is the remedy and likely cost of parts?

Oh, also how much oil does a wet sump K require at oil change? Got the Halfrauds 5/40 stuff (£19.99 *smile*) but don't want to over fill it.

Cheers

Check 7FAQ (top right hand corner of this window) for oil levels, depends on spec.

It's most likely the quill inside the drive has broken. Take the drive out, you'll need to use circlip pliers to do this, & pull the quill out of the gearbox ( it's about an inch long). It's obvious if it's broken. Other wise the drive is US or maybe it's the plastic connection inside the gearbox.

If you remove the brass top hat check that when you rotate the rear wheel that you can see the quill rotating. If you can then you should be OK. If not it's a bugger of a job to replace the drive in the gearbox.
