edmandsd
I'm proposing to send my manifold off to be ceramic coated although have heard it can crack easily. Apparently the thinner the coating the less likely it will crack. Company also offer to chemically clean inside (if not caked) and do the same ceramic coating inside. Has anyone had this treatment.......... and cracking problems ? Is doing the inside worthwhile ? I was going to get it black-chromed like the modern performance bikes but couldn't find a conmpany to do it.
captain chaos
I've had it done but it's not on the car yet so I cannot vouch for it's longevity. The finish on mine is Matt black inside and out.
edmandsd
Was the company Camcoat ? How much did they charge you ?
captain chaos
It was about £200 via SBD whom I ordered the system thru. If you went to them direct I bet you could get it cheaper.
edmandsd
Well i've been quoted £70 direct !
New Barbie
Could someone enlighten me as to the benefits of doing this ? I can see it would look good, but what are the other advantages, airflow or the like ? Cheers
Nick M
It's designed to keep underbonnet temperatures down (like exhaust wrap) and the internal coating is supposed to keep the exhaust gases hotter so they flow quicker. Personally I'm getting it done coz it looks nice and stops mild steel from going rusty !! Any other benefits are a bargain as far as I'm concerned. Miraz
I've had mine done - it cost about 130 pounds for the complete system:- 4 headers collector/catalyst unit silencer can It does look good - if the underbonnet temps are down too then it's a bonus Miraz
captain chaos
Earlier this year I was quoted for my 4:2:1, inside and out (note inside is 30% extra. see web site prices which are 2 years old!) £130 plus vat & carriage charges. For the extra few notes I let SBD take care of it. I was glad in the end because there was a fault which they spotted and sorted prior to delivery. edmandsd
I agree that the main purpose of this treatment is to preserve the appearance of the exhaust and don't believe for a moment that there are any other tangible benefits. Incidentally what was the fault ?
captain chaos
It was not a fault at Camcoat but in the build of the exhaust by BTB. SBD got everything together, built it up to check all was ok prior to coating. (Something I may not have done, as I tend to assume everything new is ok!) BTB effected the repairs and then it went for coating.

edmandsd
I'm going to be doing a back to back but unfortunately i've done a few other mods including adding a BDT scavenge system which is apparently worth 3-5 bhp so I won't know the true effects as a result of the ceramic coating. Mike Biddle
Got mine done around 18 months back at camcoat, and am very pleased with the results, looks great and no more polishing! It's lasted well too.
