Jason Plato
a VHPD or VVC casting is capable of flowing far more air than a "normal" K16 casting . Essentially the VVC and VHPD castings have the same ports , the VHPD has the top half from the K16 with all the std camshaft fittings etc and the lower half with the larger ports from the VVC casting , plus a few other little changes . If you follow 😬 Toms heads represent great value for a new head - and of course they will be become quite rare before long ☹️
Delberts Wallet
Is it true that you can't use a VHPD head with Hydrulic followers? Gareth Blue and Carbon 6 Speed Supersport with new wheels
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted October 5, 2005 Leadership Team Share Posted October 5, 2005 No, you can't use VHPD genuine cams with hydraulic followers. If you use a hydraulic rated cam it's fine. Stu.
Jason Plato
The only reason you may not be able to fit the hydraulic followers is if the oil feeds have been deleted as on the latest vulcan head or blocked up I guess.
Delberts Wallet
Thats what I was told Dave as I wanted to go VHPD head route and keep my Supersport cams. I was told it was a no no ☹️ and didn't fancy solid followers etc Gareth Blue and Carbon 6 Speed Supersport with new wheels
7 wonders of the world
Gareth, I'm sure the VHPD head I bought off Tom has oil feed holes and I'm 99.9% certain that Tom run's one with 285H with hydraulic lifters, Drop Tom a mail and he'll be able to confirm. cheers
Delberts Wallet
If thats the case then thats good news. I only wish I know before a commited to buying a startard ported head as the VHPD is much better. Jason Plato
Yes , the VHPD head has the oil holes so you should be able to run hyd followers , most owners block them up and run solid lifters . Dave
7 wonders of the world
I've not heard of people blocking the feed holes up after all the VHPD was designed to run with solid lifters...... It's common to solder the oil holes up in hydraulic lifters when converting them to solid........
Mark w
Just another plug for Tom 7, No vested interest in the sale but a satisfied customer from the past.
Delberts Wallet
Ah, so a second had VHPD head which has the solid followers will have the holes blocked off. As Toms are new then the holes will be there. Gareth Blue and Carbon 6 Speed Supersport with new wheels
Jason Plato
a new vhpd head will have holes - unless its the latest vulcan head . A second hand head *may* have the holes blocked up with metal rod and epoxy or a grub screw . Dave
