OK wheels are 4.25 PCD (hole spacings)

but what is the OFFSET???? I know they start with 'ET' & a number. (typically 0 to 30)

2000 1.6 SS (Caterham big brakes on the front & standard rear discs)

What OFFSET do I need??

The offset dimension has nothing to do with rim width, it simply dictates where the wheel and tyre centreline are in relation to the wheel mounting face to the disc/hub.

I guess however that you meant that if you want wider wheels you may need less inset, smaller ET number (ie more offset) to ensure clearance at the radius arms etc.

For 13" wheels and big brakes then the spoke/caliper clearance will be more important and if the extra offset is created with a thicker nave in the wheel centre then you get more clearance bu a heavier wheel.

For steering feel it is very personal, would suggest at least 12mm and probably less than 25mm. My 16" HP are all 19 ET and steering is still tramliney but some of that will be the tyres.

On the rear it matters less but have seen anything from ET5 (a lot of offset compared to most but as used on most Ford Escort Mk1/2 rally cars) to same as front.

Helps really to ahve front and rears same for ease of thinking at tyre change time!

Only my opinion.

PS Offset is simple to measure. Take straight edge and measure from wheel mtg face to both the inenr and outer rim face (or tyre sidewall face) and then the offset is simply half of the difference between those. IF the outer dimesnion to the mtg face is the biggest then you have offset or a negative ET.

A drawing would be simple but I don't know how to do that on here

I think these will be what you are looking for...

5.5x13..ET19

6.0x13..ET19

6.0x14..ET19

6.5x15..ET13

7.0x16..ET19

Not sure where I got this from but it's all I have at the moment.

I don't think that ET23 will be right though, it will sit the wheel too far into the car with the likelyhood that there will be some contact with something.
