Uprated 8% racks are alloy bodied and used to be colour coded, black painted alloy is 8%, RH drive, narrow track. I'm not sure they are still colour coded. I think if you have the two aluminium support blocks & they have a grub screw (allen key) through the centre of them to 'pinch' into the rack case and a lock nut around this screw then it's the standard (Mini) rack. AMMO Posted November 28, 2001 Author Share Posted November 28, 2001 Thanks fellas. Chris you have described exactly what I have with the ali blocks and grub screws. Feels fine to me so won't consider doing anything with it apart from leaving it alone. I took my car over to friend called Mick Miller who is a top notch Lotus Elan restorer. He built a Seven for himself years ago. Whilst looking over the car he told me that he used to shorten the steering arms attatched to the hubs (not the ones that stick out of the rack) to obtain quicker steering.
