Cheapo Syth Oil

Found myself in Charlie Browns Auto Store the other day, I didn't see Linus or Snoopy but I found some cheap fully synthetic oil by "Carlube" or some similar tacky brand name. It has got "Developed in conjunction with Lotus Motorsport" and that natty little Lotus logo on it. Hmmm. 5w-40w SAE was £20GBP for 5 litres!

Anyone tried this stuff?

Is there any reason not to use 'own-brand' oil, such as Halfords own synthetic oil? It appears to meet all the necessary standards, but is it a case that branded oil exceeds these standards by a bigger margin?

I've always used Mobil 1, but I'm wondering why, when it's 50% more expensive than Halfords own-brand.

Sorry Tony, no experience . I normally use PURFLUX ones (also sold by Carrefour) and probably more expensive without knowing if they have the non -return valve built in.

I wish I can be able to locate this valve.

The problem that may exist with generic oil (although I have been using Carrefour oil for 10 years with full satisfaction) is that they may be good at 100°C which is the specified temperature of the standard, but not anymore at e.g. 120 °C.

Cheers,

Pierre
