Bozz
My 1.6SS seems to have a mind of it's own 😬 When hot with cooling fan running...... Turning and removing ignition key (yes I still have one of these ) has no affect i.e. engine continues to idle normally for a few seconds before finally deciding to switching off 🤔 Is this just a case of 'they all do that sir" ? Bozz Yesterday I couldn't even spell the word 'engineer'....now I IS one!!!
oilyhands
They all do that, the cooling fan acts as a generator when the supply is cut, this feeds back to the ignition circuti which keeps the ECU alive for a few seconds. fit a large diode between the colling fan supply and the fan and it should stop. _Tim_
Interesting - mine does that too and I did start to wonder what was up with it. I think I could probably drive aroud the block with the key out sometimes! - Tim Caterham 7 - BMW E30 M3 - Nissan Navara
mutcer
I too have this unseemly problem. I should be greatful for further advice. How large a diode? What should it be mounted in? and in the path of which wire?
lofi
I like it, makes me chuckle everytime - its character. LoFi
oilyhands
Like I said, in the cooling fan supply (power) wire. One large enough to allow the current required (see the fuse spec for the cooling fan). Oily
