AlShack Posted November 19, 2001 Share Posted November 19, 2001 I've a 1.6SS 6-spead, and just wanted to check that anyone else with the 6-speed box has similar noises coming from it. When warmed up and running in neutral, it sounds a bit like a cross between a box of spaners in a tumble dryer and a diesel. Put the clutch in and it goes quiet. Now I know WestLife made a diesel 7-type thing a few years ago, but even with my limited knowledge of the oily bits, I'm pretty sure my car is not one of those wink.gif Cheers Al Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The first motion shaft and laygear are dancing around a bit due to the fact that they are effectively idling with alternating accelerative and deccelerative cycles in time with the engine. CHRIS CLARK Posted January 7, 2002 Share Posted January 7, 2002 Yep, standard procedure. My 'new' 6 speed is far worse than my 'old' 5 speed in this respect. At an L7C meeting we discussed this very point and it's amazing how many people thought they were the only ones suffering! Lots of "Oh yes, I keep my foot on the clutch pedal at traffic light just to cut out the noise" !!! I checked recently though and what sounds a complete bag of nails from within the car is almost inaudible from outside dut to exhaust/induction noise.
